This perfectly located home is a great place to relax following a day exploring VT and its capital! Around the corner you'll find VT's best corner store, bar, pizza, tacos, Vietnamese, Thai, gelato, bookstores, and a short drive to VT's best hiking & skiing!. This listing is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families, groups up to 6 people, and furry friends (pets).

The space

Your satisfaction, comfort, and convenience is what matters most!

Excellent location - this listing is the most centrally located Airbnb listing in Montpelier. You can easily walk everywhere in downtown. A small front-yard flower garden welcomes you to this 120 year old Vermont house.

The 2nd floor apartment is spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable.

The master bedroom is extra large with a remarkably comfortable queen bed, dresser, closet, and nightstands. The small bedroom is a walk-through bedroom between the living room and the master bedroom. Upon request, you can have a full or queen bed replace the single bed that comes in the small bedroom.

You may enjoy the front porch, use of the grill, and you're welcome to pick flowers in the front yard!

Fresh towels, linens, pillows, etc. are all provided. To ensure your comfort, the master bedroom has its own heating unit and fan, and there are extra blankets, quilts, and pillows upon request!

The kitchen is fully stocked with kitchen supplies, including a refrigerator, electric flat-top stove and oven, toaster oven, and anything you might want for tea and coffee: electric hot water kettle, drip coffee machine, French press, a coffee bean grinder, and an assortment of teas and locally-roasted coffee beans.

The bathroom is small and tucked behind the middle room. Vintage fixtures give this small/cozy bathroom an old-world feel. The bathroom is well-lit, and stocked with all basic amenities (soap, shampoo, towels, toilet paper, and hair dryer).

The house has a shared, free laundry room just between the 1st floor apartment and the stairwell - you're welcome to use it in the daytime between 8am-8pm.

A $10 cleaning fee (lowest on Airbnb) and $100 refundable security deposit apply to every reservation. Two guests are included; if your group is larger, it's $20/night per additional guest. Flexible check-in, check-out, and cancelation policy.

Guest access

Guest access is simple and straightforward: right up the front porch, through the front-door and up the flight of stairs to the 2nd floor apartment door. This 1.5 bedroom, 2rd-floor apartment is private - you'll have it all to yourself. When you make a reservation, Airbnb will send you all details regarding check-in.

Interaction with guests

I travel frequently, so we may not meet in-person, but I have an easy "self check-in" process. If I'm not around Montpelier and have guests before/after you, I will be sending you the simple details about the "DIY" (e.g. make your own bed) process that many of my guests use. If I'm around Montpelier, I'm always happy to trade some stories over a coffee or beer. Either way, I'm happy to answer your questions about Montpelier and central Vermont, and of course point you in the right direction for local places to go and things to do!

Other things to note

This is a safe space, welcoming of all people.

A caution: light sleepers may be challenged by the thin walls/floors of this house, and the fact that being downtown in a small city can mean some frequent street noise. The house is on a small but busy street, and looks out onto a large parking lot, the rear of a busy USPS post office (trucks move frequently) and a clock tower (which sounds at the top of every hour - e.g. 12 times at midnight, 4 times at 4am and 4pm).

Winter (Nov 15 - April 1):
There is a total overnight (1am-6am) winter parking ban in effect on my street. As the Montpelier City website states: "Failure to move your car may result in a $15 ticket and a $65 towing charge."
You may use the free, overnight parking in the city-owned, metered parking lots found behind the Rite-Aid on Main Street (5 min walk from my house), or behind the Capitol Plaza Hotel / Northfield Savings Bank / Christ Episcopal Church (3 min walk from my house if you walk through the parking lot opposite of my house).

On-street (free!) parking only. The driveway is strictly reserved for downstairs tenants and neighbors.

House Rules

No parties or events
Check in is anytime after 3PM
Check out by 11AM

Please no smoking indoors (instead, the far side of the front porch is best).

Please help yourself to anything (truly!) in the kitchen.

If you have house shoes or slippers, you're encouraged to wear those - leaving dirty shoes and boots in the hallway is much appreciated.

Laundry room may be used between 8am-8pm.

It's a clean, quiet, and peaceful house, so we're grateful for your care in helping to keep it that way.

I'm a pet lover and owner (2 dogs on my farm)! House-broken, non-aggressive pets possible with special request and a $20/pet fee (a 1-time fee, not per night). Please no pets on furniture. Please do not leave pets unattended for long periods of time (i.e. 8+ hours), or any length of time if you have a dog that barks frequently or has separation anxiety.

You must also acknowledge
Potential for noise - The house is on a daytime-busy street, across from the loading dock of a post office (24/7 activity), and although it's small, Montp is an active city
Pet(s) live on property - Occasionally I have my 2 sweet dogs with me (they otherwise live on our family farm), or hosting a friend and their dog. Contact me with any questions
No parking on property - Generally, I only have free on-street parking available in front of the house. Contact me with any questions/requests.
Amenity limitations - WiFi can be a little weak in the larger bedroom.

Theo was easy to communicate with and gave us great recommendations for a very pleasant hike up the hill behind the house, as well as great dinner suggestions. We enjoyed the great location ... it's always nice to eat in downtown Montpelier! Bed was super comfy and bed linens lovely and fresh. :'-)

Theo's place is a very short walk from downtown Montpelier. The second floor where I stayed was roomy with a kitchenette and clean bathroom. The house is old but has a lot of charm which adds to the cozy New England feel. Easy check in and check out process. Pet friendly too!

We were graciously greeted by Theo on arrival and the place was very accommodating to our haphazard schedule and having a limited means of communication. The spot is nice and close to all the Montpellier excitement and the bed was lusciously comfortable after a night of cold camping! Theo provided us with a lively tour and some appreciated suggestions for food. Overall a great stay!

What a lovely place--great light and wonderful privacy. Cool art. I even loved the piano playing downstairs and the church bells! The location cannot be beat.

Theodore's place is a great place to stay in Montpelier. The apartment is only a short walk away from downtown (great restaurants, coffee shops, stores, and pubs). The apartment is in an older building, but it was extremely clean and comes with lots of charm. Theodore was easy to communicate with, and check in and check out were a breeze. Especially compared to the high prices of Vermont B&Bs and hotels, this place was a steal. The apartment is also very large, so it's great for people/couples who need a lot of space.
