Wendy was kind, generous, incredibly helpful and communicated very clearly. She had many useful tips and hints about seeing San Francisco and the Bay area. The place is cheap and cheerful, in a quiet neighborhood but with easy access to the city via a 5 min walk to Macarthur Bart station. Local restaurants and shops are only a few blocks away. It was everything I needed for my stay. Thank you!

Wendy is kind and helpful, and the place is minutes from BART and pretty comfortable. The kitchen allows basic meal preparation and has a few essentials. Wendy allowed us to store a bicycle in a safe place which made a big difference in how well we slept at night :) The place could use a few repairs, but for the price that is perfectly acceptable. Will happily recommend it.

We would not come back. The neighbourhood was very sketchy, the house was run down or in the middle of reno's. It felt more like a hostel with a private room than a B&B. Our host was nice but there was a lot of traffic in the house in the evening and made it hard to fall asleep.... we had to use our headphones.

Response from Wendy/Dick:
I understand that It's normal to see mean person once a year. The guests in the back room response to your complain: He just came to the kitchen to grab a glass of water, and had a shower after 10pm in the back hall way bathroom. Why you complained like a big deal? The house is old, but cleaned well before each guest come, no dust, newer carpet with dark color. One star you gave us is unbelievable. You wanted to pay a cheap place to stay, but had the highest expectation of 5 start hotel. Thank you!!!

If you are willing to spend a little extra on a private bathroom, easy check-in, and unbeatable location, this is the place for you. Everything else was not worth the value. Housing prices in Oakland must be even more on the rise than I thought! Reminded me of somewhere I would have lived when I was slumming it in college. Again, nothing particularly _terrible_ about the place, just felt too expensive for what I ended up getting. The pictures somewhat accurately show a humble room, the bedroom and bathroom are clean but drab, especially walls and carpet. Loose shelf in the closet, jerry rigged shower, window screwed shut in bedroom (I guess for safety? but still). Pieces of broken down furniture, random shrink wrapped electronics and burnt out light bulbs in the common room made the place seem uncared for, which I think was magnified by the fact that the building is not owner occupied. "Enjoy the backyard"....not when it's dominated by an open shed full of junk and a fallen satellite antenna. The listing said "quiet" but it's right off the kitchen in a busy house with several other guests around, it was very noisy and did not feel private at all. When I checked in to the house was filled with fried food smells and five folks having a loud dinner for hours (I mean, that's what my house is like sometimes, but not what I'm looking for as a paying customer). Although the private bathroom was a bonus, I wouldn't call this a "master" suite because it was quite small. The listing should also describe how many other guests are in the house. There were a lot coming in and out. In general, host was super fast at responding and very friendly/welcoming. We did not get to meet face-to-face because of schedules, but she made it work! Check-in and check-out were a total breeze. My major communication issue was that the host did not contact us before entering the (locked) room while we were gone, it was not an emergency situation, just to put up a painting on the wall. The host did not apologize nor seem to think it was a problem even though we stated displeasure. Could have sent a little notice as courtesy. Again, I've stayed in places similar to this and have been quite happy, but at those times, the price better reflected what I got. Also, some of the issues could be equally as much an AirBnB policy problem: remember, hosts are not required to list square footage, a privacy policy, or whether or not the home is owner occupied or the exact volume of occupancy in the rest of the house. Found out the hard way! This is basically a pricey boarding house/dorm in a cool neighborhood. Meh.
