Great location

Guided farm walk & gourmet breakfast, served in the house or cabin. Pat our animals & milk a goat! The cabin sits on the side of our 400m driveway about 30m (33 yd) from our house. Kitchenette & bathroom. The bunks are double at the top & bottom so can sleep up to 4 people willing to share 2 beds. We are a Japanese-NZer couple with children living on a farm 10 mins' drive out of Te Anau. Mountain views guaranteed, but total peace and quiet is not. Optional dinner with family NZ$20 per adult.

The space
There are kilometres of stunning views of the mountain views across the valley to mountains in two directions, and yet you are only 30 metres from your hosts. Your stay will be infused with rural quiet, and fresh country air. You will be greeted, and then left to your own plans. But time can be arranged for your free farm tour, goat milking session, or an optional meal with the family. In other words, you're treated like a neighbour, but you're welcome like one of the family. Your gourmet breakfast can be taken out to the cabin, or you may choose to eat it in the house.

Guest access
Guest access includes the area immediately in front of the cabin, driveway, front or house lawns, trampoline, and we can arrange for laundry to be done in the house for you, free of charge, after you arrive, while you sleep, or while you travel, if you are staying more than one night. You may choose to eat an evening meal with us, and you have a choice of eating your free gourmet breakfast in the house, at the kitchen table, or we can have it brought to your cabin. Unless you agree otherwise, we have an old border collie dog who will gladly doze at your cabin entrance. She can be tied up while you are around. We have a 450m (492 yard) scenic driveway. Feel free to use it for a walk.

Other things to note
Nearby farm animals make noises. There are roaring bulls, elk, and deer which are all behind fences, but may, at some times of the year, such as May to September, make noises at any time of day or night, without the slightest bit of concern for your welfare. It is unlikely that you will hear barking dogs. There is almost endless parking here. We have even had milk tankers with trailers park, and reverse from outside our house, and the cabin.

Te Anau, Southland, New Zealand

The thing that makes our neighbourhood unique is that we are so far from the neighbours on or road we can't see their houses. The only houses you see are thousands of metres away on other roads. We are in a pastoral rural area. It is very quiet.

Growing up in suburban Tokyo, all I knew was the busy city life. Spending 3 weeks in Brisbane, Australia, during the World Expo '88 literally opened my teenage eyes to a bigger world out there. I knew I had to come back to the Southern Hemisphere. New Zealand, with its snowy peaks and millions of sheep, fascinated me. In a matter of a few months, I was back - this time in Auckland, New Zealand, as a high school exchange student. One year in New Zealand was way too short, so I stayed on and went to Christchurch for my remaining high school years. I ended up doing a degree at University of Canterbury, and that's where I met Neil. Born and bred in Christchurch, Neil had never been out of NZ or lived outside Christchurch. We graduated together in the mid-90s and married soon after. We have 4 boys and 4 girls. Our eldest son is now 24, and the youngest is 10. Our family and farm animals made a big move from Oxford near Christchurch to Te Anau near Milford Sound in August 2015. All of us instantly fell in love with Fiordland and have never regretted the move. We never get tired of the beautiful Fiordland mountain scenery around us. We love talking to our guests and showing them around our farm and animals (goats, cows, sheep and Tombi the Border Collie).
