Beautiful area
Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Creating Balance Nature Retreat is a modern, self-contained sanctuary designed for rest, reconnection and renewal in nature.
Surrounded by native bush, birdsong and expansive ocean and mountain views, it offers a peaceful place to slow down, settle in and nourish your whole being.
The space
Discover a private 45m² retreat, thoughtfully curated for modern comfort and a relaxed, restorative stay.
Inside you’ll find a comfortable queen bed, private en-suite bathroom and carefully selected amenities throughout.
Crafted with permaculture-inspired principles, solar-powered systems and natural, ethically sourced furnishings, the retreat brings together ease, simplicity and respect for the Earth.
Mobile data coverage is available at the retreat. There is no Wi-Fi, and we consider that one of the retreat’s quiet gifts.
Natural timber and clay-marble finishes sit alongside sweeping views, creating a seamless connection with the surrounding landscape.
Forest views surround the bedroom, greeting you each morning and creating a peaceful setting for deep rest.
The queen bed is dressed in intentionally relaxed bedding, with a natural latex Peace Lily mattress topper, ethically sourced Foxtrot French Flax linen and quilt, and a luxurious Hungarian duck down duvet and pillows.
The wardrobe offers clothing storage, with soft New Zealand wool blankets and organic cotton beach towels included.
Your private en-suite is a light-filled space, with a large window framing the mānuka trees outside and blinds to soften the afternoon light. It features a walk-in shower, ceramic basin and flushing toilet. A natural Aotea bath range — shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash — and plush bath towels are provided for your stay.
The well-equipped kitchen includes a fridge and small freezer, gas hob, oven and grill, French press and quality cookware, crockery and utensils. Complimentary organic tea blends, Fair-trade coffee and essential seasonings are provided, while the dining table looks out across the landscape.
The lounge offers expansive ocean and mountain views, with a cosy wood burner for cooler days. A comfortable sofa and armchair are complemented by a curated selection of books on wellness, yoga and New Zealand’s natural world.
Eco-yoga mats, bolsters, eye pillows, belts, blocks and blankets are available for your private use — whenever you feel called to move, stretch or relax.
Warm, low-glare lighting with dimmable controls throughout creates a soft and calm evening ambience.
The private deck opens to wide horizons, with lounge chairs for slow mornings, sunrise or sunset. Soft exterior lighting illuminates the deck and access steps at night, while a small garden seat nestles among native plants — a lovely spot for stargazing beneath exceptionally clear night skies.
Scenic native bush trails begin directly from your door.
From the retreat, many of Golden Bay’s breathtaking landscapes are within easy reach, making it simple to immerse yourself in the area’s natural wonders.
Nearby highlights include Wharariki Beach, Whanganui Inlet, Te Waikoropupū Springs, Milnthorpe Beach, Farewell Spit, Salisbury Falls, the Heaphy Track, and Parapara Peak.
Tākaka township, just a 15-minute drive away, offers a supermarket, bakery, cafés, shops, galleries, local produce, ATMs and a lively Saturday Village Market.
The Nature Retreat is reserved exclusively for you — no other guests, just you and nature.
Guest access
You have private use of the retreat and deck, with private on-site parking at the garden steps.

The property connects directly to scenic native bush trails, cycling tracks, and stunning landscapes.
Other things to note
We share this land with birds and other wildlife. You may encounter curious critters such as wētā, insects, or small lizards; they’re harmless and part of the local ecosystem.
As a natural rural property, the setting includes outdoor steps and gravel paths, so it may not be suitable for guests with significant mobility limitations or accessibility needs. From time to time, you may also hear neighbouring properties working the land — part of the gentle rhythm of rural life here, and usually brief.
If you have any health considerations that may affect your comfort or safety during your stay, we appreciate you letting us know ahead of time. This helps us assess suitability and make reasonable adjustments where possible.
We recommend bringing appropriate clothing for changeable weather — Golden Bay can shift across four seasons in a day 😊
Arrival & departure: Check-in is between 3–6 pm, and check-out is by 11 am. We personally welcome each guest on arrival and show you through the retreat. We don’t offer self check-in, so we ask that you let us know your expected arrival time ahead of your stay.
Arrivals between 6–8 pm require prior arrangement and incur a $38 late-arrival fee. Arrivals after 8 pm are not normally possible and can only be accommodated by prior arrangement. Please contact us if you expect to arrive after 6 pm.
We ask that guests leave the retreat reasonably tidy and treat the space with care. An additional cleaning charge may apply if the retreat is left unusually untidy or requires significantly more cleaning than normal.
