Get back to basics in our cozy woodland cabin located off the Mt Baker Highway (542) near the town of Maple Falls. This is a very quiet location near Silver Lake, which offers fishing, boating, numerous hiking and biking trails. The Mt. Baker Ski Area is 40 minutes away for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledding. Come on out to this natural PNW oasis for a forest bath and some R&R (rest and recreation).
Studio style space with open floor plan. The cabin includes a toasty wood stove, full kitchen, gas range and oven, indoor cedar-sided electric sauna (on a timer!) for warming up after hitting the slopes and a fire pit out back for roasting dogs and marshmallows. There is one full bathroom as well as an outdoor shower if you get too steamy in the sauna. Sleeping is cabin-esque, with a futon and a cot ready upon your arrival.
* WINTER 2017 UPDATE *
A new covered front porch is nearing completion. As of Nov 14, 2017, the last door is getting mounted. This will provide additional space for storing skis, coats, boots, and some convenient firewood! As winter progresses, there will be a laundry machines and a loft bedroom available for use. Pictures coming soon, but we wanted to be available for Mt. Baker's opening weekend!
1 acre wooded property, no immediate neighbors. Complete and total privacy except for the nearby road with occasional passersby.
Interaction with guests
We are 40 minutes away so cannot be of much help. There is a phone for emergencies (cell coverage very limited) and Wifi for reaching us with questions.
Other things to note
Other than the sauna and a space heater, this cabin is wood heat only! You must be able to start a fire and maintain it safely in order to stay here comfortably in the winter.
FIRE - When making a fire in the wood stove, use only dry kindling, paper, wood, and matches. Make sure all other materials are clear of the fire in case of sparks. Open the vent after you have built the fire. Please make sure the fire in the wood stove is completely done burning before leaving the cabin. During the cold and wet seasons, the fire pit in the back yard is safe for building large fires.
If you are not comfortable with building and maintaining a fire, there are two space heaters available, as well as the sauna.
SAUNA - The sauna is able to be put on a timer so it is heated when you are ready. There is also a 1-10 heat setting for you to adjust-- it can get extremely hot. Please no food and drink, animals, or young children allowed in the sauna.
Upon your departure:
The bathroom door must be closed for heating purposes.
To discourage rodents, please do not leave any food or dirty dishes.
CIGARETTES - Please no smoking in or near the cabin. The owner is very sensitive to the smell, and this is his sanctuary. Please don't ruin it. Other types of herbal products are fine.
DOGS are welcome and loved, but please do not let up them on the white bed linens. You are also expected to pick up after your animal if they defecate on the property. We have children who tromp around out there and do not want to step on it.
I've lived in Bellingham for 16 years. I came here to attend WWU and fell in love with the place, especially the surrounding mountains, islands, and ocean. I work as a software developer and have focused a lot of my free time on bicycles (racing & riding), backcountry skiing & snowboarding, rock climbing & mountaineering, live music listening, beer drinking, festival going & dancing! I spent a year remodeling an old cabin on one acre of forest out near Maple Falls, WA (The Alta). I enjoy creating community and have decided to open up my sanctuary for others on AirBnB to enjoy. I look forward to possibly hosting and even meeting you!
