A one-room cottage nestled in the privacy of Cucunama Bajo, 6 minutes by taxi from downtown Vilcabamba There is an outdoor propane stove with pots/pans; bathroom, shower. Make full use of the land and hiking trails!

The space

This is a private cottage for one to two people, in a pastoral setting. Tons of birds abound. It is one room, little house, which holds the bed, kitchen and bathroom Hot water is dependent on the solar power - there may be hot water or not! Your propane stove is outside on the porch. Great for midnight snacking in the cool amazing sweet breeze of Vilcabamba.

Guest access

You will come through the big black gate, straight to the entrance of your cottage. The room has its own 2 entrances, and a vegetable garden out back. Quiet and peace abound! Guests will see one peaceful German Shepherd dog, Tiko, and the cat, Cuko.

Interaction with guests

I provide coffee and tea as desired in the mornings. Sometimes there's fresh fruit around, but if not, town is a short distance for a full breakfast for around $3. You will be left alone, unless you would like help with hikes, Yoga or Tai Chi classes, Massage or Reiki session by Dorothy, horseback rides, swims or massages. I would love to help with things to do, places to eat, to walk in Vilcabamba!

Dorothy was the most AMAZING hostess! Immediately upon arrival you feel as though you have come home again. The property is STUNNING and the orchard is beautiful. Tiko, the dog, makes you feel safe and watched over. The Casita is just perfect. The bed is SUPER cozy and the space is ideal. You feel just perfectly at home! I would recommend Dorothy's property to anyone, anytime. It is the most perfect place to stay!

Dorthy made us feel right at home upon our arrival. Her place is very cute and cozy located on a charming property. Unfortunately for us the hot water heater was having issues and did not work during our first two days there so we moved to another location for the rest of or stay in the area. Dorthy tried multiple times to have the unit repaired but had no luck. She was a good host and very warm and welcoming person as well, maybe next timr

Response from Dorothy:
The electrician went to the canal that morning and cleared a big rock which was keeping the water pressure from moving the calefon (hot water tank.) at utmost efficiency.

We loved our stay at Dorothy's Casita. It was very relaxing and Dorothy was very welcoming from the moment we arrived. She was a great resource and readily helped with any questions and responded quickly with any concerns. She is not intrusive and very respectful. The property is beautiful with wonderful views if the Andes. La Casita was as expected from the description. We plan to be back soon and believe we have found a new friend as well.

Casita de las palomas really worked out for us. It a bit out of Vilcabamba but we felt spoil by tranquility in great country setting after being in busy Cuenca. Walking from town on a canal above the hill was beautiful & peaceful, it is a 2h hike, something we enjoyed. Dorothy is there to help, she is welcoming & generous. We found her inspirering with her South America settling.

Dorothy made us feel welcome from the rime we arrived. We found the casita was all it was described as. To our delight, Dorothy had furnished it with virtually all we could want and more. There was even coffee, tea, purified water, and eatables, so we didn't have to stress over the fact that we arrived tired and hungry. She was helpful as can be, answering all of our questions as they came up. She made herself available to assist us in making the "cultural adjustment" as easy as possible. The only down side of the stay was maintaining hot water in the shower. Dorothy immediately went to work on finding a solution to the problem, and had installed a solar hot water system to supplement the instant water heater. Thank you for everything Dorothy! We not only had a great stay, we made a friend!

I am excited to announce that I have several possibilities for travelers in this wonderful retreat here in magical Vilcabamba! A single cottage with outdoor propane cooking, rooms in the retreat center, or hanging tents for travelers. I offer yoga, reiki, tai chi or massage in town as a certified instructor, andoffer my eleven-year experience with raw and living foods to create fruit, vegetable salads, smoothies, green drinks or home-made ecuadorian food for you if yoiu'd like to pre-order breakfast. I also share my love for birds in this bird sanctuary, my love of my dogs and yours, and many various walks and hikes.I water and work the garden, and may be found meditating in any of several secret hideouts around the place.
