Welcome to Pemako Farm's "The Kite"... Laid-back, modern, boutique accommodation purpose-built to provide comfort, quality, luxury and seclusion only a few minutes from the start of New Zealand's most popular National Park, The Abel Tasman. At the Kite, STAY FOR GOOD knowing that a minimum of ten percent of your nightly tariff is donated to charity.

The space
Venture up the magical Marahau Valley to your own hidden sanctuary set amongst our 25-acre farm.

The babbling waters of the Marahau River flow through the length of the surrounding farm and the shimmering hills of the Abel Tasman grace every vista.

Wake to the singing of native birds, enjoy all the Abel Tasman National Park has to offer right on your doorstep and unwind at the end of the day amidst the private, purpose-built surrounds of your own luxury villa.

Upon your arrival, you will be greeted with a welcome basket featuring a selection of local nibbles and beverages.

Options at and nearby to The Kite include: taking a dip in the refreshing Marahau River; exploring the Abel Tasman by your choice of adventure: by boat (sail, water taxi, Eco Tour), on foot or kayak (solo or guided), canyoning, or by horseback; washing away the day in your indoor-outdoor shower or soaking in your outdoor over-sized bathtub while gazing up at the Southern Hemisphere's stunning night sky; meeting our farm animals; taking in the luxurious outdoor living spaces we have created for your enjoyment; tour the little village we call home by bicycles provided for your convenience; enjoy local cafe offerings from gourmet burgers to a-la-carte dining; and explore the greater Top of the South from your own luxurious piece of paradise.

It is our sincere pleasure to invite you to experience The Kite and we strive to do whatever it takes to offer you the best trip possible. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to accommodate special requests or needs you may have.

Our recommendation is to spend a minimum of three to four nights at the Kite, so you can truly take advantage of all the varied activities in the area, and depart feeling deeply refreshed.

*The Kite is part of our STAY FOR GOOD programme. A minimum of ten percent of profits will be donated to charities in New Zealand and across the globe that focus on arts, community, and sustainability*

*One-night stays may be possible with a surcharge. Please make an enquiry and we will send a special offer.

Guest access
Access is provided to all main amenities & areas of the home.

Guests enjoy access all over our 25-acre farm, and are encouraged to explore the river, the bamboo forest, the horses and trails around the property.

The Kite is located 40 metres away from the main farmhouse where our family of five lives. The Kite has its own dedicated access and parking and is completely private from the main dwelling, separated by a thick lemonwood hedge. A caretaker couple also lives on site approximately 100 m away from the Kite in 'The Loft' ( the upstairs of our horse barn).

Other things to note
There is a small sealed ford crossing and 2 km of well formed gravel road to arrive to the Kite. This access is generally accessible for all cars, as nearly all of our guests have small, 2 -wheel drive rental vehicles. In the very rare occasion where an extreme flooding event may occur, other access provisions through crossing neighbouring private land may be made available.

We have a family dog Leo, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, who lives on site and may be seen wandering about the farm during your stay, as well as horses and chickens. We have water hazards on site including the Marahau River running the length of the Northern farm boundary, and a beautifully meandering farm stream that trickles through the middle of the farm. Horses are often kept in paddocks that may have electrified fencing, so please take extra care when greeting our equine friends.

Marahau, Tasman, New Zealand

Marahau - a magical place and the Southern gateway to the Abel Tasman. One of New Zealand's most beautiful National Parks and most certainly the most accessible park with beautiful beaches, incredible birdlife, rivers, forests & more!

This area is known for its natural beauty, golden sandy beaches, friendly locals and great eateries - Park Cafe, Fat Tui & Hooked on Marahau! The area is also close to Kaiteriteri and surrounding beaches and the mountainbike park there.

This is a great base to enjoy Tasman and Golden Bays, the Abel Tasman and Kahurangi National Parks as well as the perfect private retreat in Marahau.

We (Brittany originally from USA, and Tim originally from Scotland) are fortunate to be raising our young family (three wonderful daughters) in the Top or the South Island, Aotearoa, New Zealand. We love the outdoors and being in nature and are always up for a good adventure... We’ve travelled extensively prior to settling for good in our adopted country NZ, and after starting our family, created the Kite as a haven for travellers to our neck of the woods. We have poured a lot of love into this unique sanctuary and it brings us great joy to share it with others. *We have a STAY FOR GOOD programme where a minimum of ten percent of all gross proceeds will be donated to a worthy cause/charity either here at home in New Zealand or further afield. Thanks for helping us help others!*

During your stay
We live on site with our exuberant three young daughters, and are here to answer questions and provide assistance if needed. Your privacy is important to us and we take every care to make sure this is maintained during your stay. Our boisterous daughters may be heard frolicking about the farm, but the Kite sanctuary is your own private haven. We do love to meet our guests, are always up for a chat, and will take the opportunity to greet you if our paths cross while out on the farm during your stay. We also have two lovely live-in caretakers on site who will be available in the instances that our family is away traveling, so you are well supported before and during your stay with us if need be.
