Two-bedroom, two bath cabin eight miles south of Boone, North Carolina on Highway 105 in the Watauga River Valley. Fifteen minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock. A large covered wrap-around porch offers the best sittin' in the Blue Ridge and a pleasing mountain view. Enjoy your solitude or entertain in the spacious great room. Many popular attractions are nearby.

The space
The cabin has two bedrooms. There are two twin beds in the first bedroom and a king-sized bed in the second. (We also have one twin air mattress with additional bedding.) Each bedroom has its own washroom with a shared tub area between them. We provide clean bedding, towels, washcloths, hand towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash and, unlike many other listings, we charge no additional cleaning fee.

The kitchen is fully-equipped with everything you need. We also provide paper towels, place-mats, and napkins. There is a charcoal grill available for outside cooking.

Guests may use the laundry facilities in the basement level.

There is a flat-screen TV with basic cable channels, wi-fi, and a house phone that can be used for local and long distance (USA) calls.

The house is wheel-chair accessible, there is a grab-bar for the tub, and a safety gate at the top of the stairs.

Guest access
Guests can access the great room, kitchen, bedrooms, baths, laundry room, and deck. The long driveway can even provide a pleasant stroll. We welcome families, but we do wish to add a word of caution if you are bringing very young children. The wrap-around deck is one of the wonderful things about the cabin, but on the backside, it sits twenty feet above the ground. Young children should NEVER, EVER be left on the deck unsupervised.

Other things to note
Are you an Outlander fan? According to author Diana Gabaldon, the fictitious Fraser’s Ridge "is nestled in an area north of the Yadkin River between the towns of Boone and Blowing Rock, North Carolina, near Grandfather Mountain, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina." That would be, well, right here! How fun is that?

Location

Boone, North Carolina, United States

Our cabin is located in a small subdivision called Watauga River Overlook. The subdivision "overlooks" the river in the topographical sense, but does not actually contain a scenic overlook...just to clarify :-) The neighborhood is rustic, with gravel roads and about twenty houses on wooded lots. Most of the residents live here year-round, so ours is an "ordinary" neighborhood in that sense. The cabin feels remote, but is actually only about a half-mile from Highway 105, which is very convenient. (For the sake of honest disclosure, note that some highway noise can be heard.)

The view from the cabin changes with the seasons. In summer, the leaves block the long-range view, but you will feel like you are sitting in the treetops, which has its own wonder. The view re-emerges in fall as the leaves thin out and turn beautiful colors. The best long-range views are in winter, after the leaves have fallen. In spring, the view recedes as foliage slowly returns.

An encounter with wild animals is unlikely, but the rural nature of our neighborhood makes me feel the need to mention it as a possibility. Deer and rabbits are by far the most common wild animals in our area, but bears and raccoons are sometimes drawn to outside garbage cans. We see few snakes, but certainly they are present in the woods. It is never a good idea to interact with wild animals - even those that seem harmless.
