Our barn is close to Hay on Wye, a quirky and idiosyncratic town famous for its Literary Festival. Up to three cosy bedrooms available for couples, families, groups of friends and individual travellers. Breakfast included.
Hay on Wye is a haven to unwind, relax & explore the numerous independent book and craft shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants. We are situated at the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park with easy access for walking & exploring the Black Mountains
This listing is for green bedroom 2 which can be either a double or two singles with a large private family bathroom across the hallway with bath and separate shower. The Hay Barn is Grade II Listed, was converted in 2010 and is our own home. The three listings we have are for guests who are looking to stay on one, two or three bedrooms so sleeping from two to six people if required. If guests wish to book more than one room then please access the other two listings to arrange the remaining bookings or contact us. The three guest bedrooms are located on the first floor and consist of a double with an en-suite shower room (bedroom 1) and two further bedrooms which are available as doubles or twins both of which share a large family bathroom with a bath and separate shower. Our own bedroom and bathroom are up in the loft on the second floor and at the opposite end of the barn to the guests' bedrooms. The barn has underfloor heating and is therefore warm and cosy - a particular treat in the winter months - with the added benefit of a roaring log-burner in the living room for those chilly evenings. Our beds are super comfy, have feather and duck down pillows with anti-allergic covers and 600tc Egyptian cotton bed linen.
Guests have access to our open plan living, dining and kitchen areas on the ground floor of the barn and are welcome to join us in the evening to relax should they wish. There is a separate toilet on the ground floor as well. Guests also have access to the landscaped garden to the rear with views to the hills and adjoining fields. To the front of the barn is a large open and easily-accessible lawned courtyard, this being a communal area shared with our neighbours.
Other things to note
Our barn is part of a small group of six 250 year old very attractive and characterful converted barns which are Grade II Listed and are set around the open courtyard at the front. We along with our neighbours respect each others' privacy.
The barns are surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and farmland where a neighbour farms sheep, cattle and arable crops. Local commuting is generally by tractor!
- No shoes in house
We are very flexible and relaxed and anticipate that guests will wish to socialize, especially given the open plan nature of the living space, but we do also respect their privacy, of course.
At breakfast you will have a choice of full english or continental as well as fruits and kefir - all based around a healthy start to the day. Our fresh organic eggs are from our own chickens who enjoy the freedom of the garden and are naturally fed.
I am an architect and my passions are working with existing as well as designing new buildings which enhance the built and natural environment. My wife has a background in natural health and we have similar passions for gardening, food, movies and music plus our little family of chickens. We enjoy traveling and have lived & worked in various countries over the years.
As hosts we enjoy meeting new people.
