My five day stay at Susisplace was great. The place is like a small familyhostel with very friendly people running it. There is always someone in the common room to help you with anything you need, whether it is renting a scooter, buying a bus ticket or getting advice where to go for a trip. The room was clean and relatively spacious. I had all I needed and the breakfasts were delicious (even tailor made to my food allergy problems). The location is perfect for getting there by train and renting a scooter or car while there (i recommend scooter though since it is much faster both for going to the city and to the taroko park). The city is a comfy 20 min drive away and the taroko visitors center is just 10 min away. I made a trip to the Taroko every day and was very satisfied. I recommend Susisplace and would definitely stay again.
Susi was an exceptional host. I was greeted with a warm welcome and invited for traditional dinner which was delicious. Susi also helped me get my bearings of the area and had lots of suggestions if things to do locally and especially visiting Taroko Park. I happily reccommend Susi place to any tourist even of international status. Max
Susi was very welcoming during our one night stay. She was able to accommodate our early arrival and let us check in early because the room was empty. She also prepared fruits and toast for breakfast, and helped us contact a driver for us upon request since we didn't have a Taiwanese cell phone. Susi also had great tips for getting around the area and what sights to see. Chatting with her when we arrived was a great way to get acquainted with the area. The listing description was accurate. We stayed in a private double room, which was spacious. The bathroom was pretty clean. The common area downstairs is very cute, though we didn't have time to hang out much. The neighborhood is pretty quiet. The neighbors like to karaoke outside on the corner, which is cute. 7-11 is a 10-15 minute walk away, as is the Xincheng train station. Staying closer to the train station would have been convenient. At night, the direct path to Susi's place is unlit, but we never felt unsafe. Overall, I would recommend a friend to stay here if they plan on visiting Taroko Gorge and Hualien.
