The Owl Pine is an original carriage house built in 1922 on an epic, park-like two acres on Strawberry Creek. Located on the upper end of Idyllwild’s historic district steps from Café Aroma/Idyology, it's an easy 10 min. walk to the village (or hike along the creek trail from the yard). Surrounded by nature+towering trees+stars, it's magic. Loft bedroom, native rock fireplace, interesting art & vintage record collection/player. Perfect for 1-2 guests (can sleep up to 4). The space

Idyllwild (population 3,870 / elevation 5,413’) is known for fresh air and mountain vistas. The carriage house stands near the original summer house (our full-time residence) and shares a circle driveway and paths that crisscross the property. We also offer a camping experience on one corner of our property featuring a vintage 1955 Trail Chief pop-up for 1-2 guests. You can read a camp feature on Hipcamp, book it via Airbnb or send us an inquiry. A cool option for two couples or a small family is to book both the carriage house and Camp Owl Pine for an amazing stay.

The entire property is two acres that have been undeveloped for almost 100 years with an unparalleled landscape of boulders, pine, oak, cedar, fir, redwood, manzanita, holly, etc. Discover seasonal roses, sweet peas, wild strawberries and more. The land is magical. Watch deer (a family of 2-8 regularly traverse property), squirrels, woodpeckers, jays, hawks, lizards, etc. Listen to the crunch of leaves as you walk original rock paths (circa 1920s) down to Strawberry Creek. Listen to the sound of live music from neighboring Café Aroma, star gaze, collect pinecones, forage wild mint, smell the dirt, commune with nature, enjoy being alive. General adventuring encouraged. San Jacinto mountain highlights include world-class rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding. Idyllwild is also a hub for hikers along the 2,600 mile Pacific Crest Trail.

Note: We recommend two nights to properly unplug and enjoy the property/surrounding nature.

I stayed at the Owl Pine with my husband for our anniversary & we truly could not have picked a better place! Michael was incredibly hospitable & respectful. A book of restaurants, hikes, & entertainment was provided upon checkin. The house itself shared beautiful land with the main house & the nearby creek makes walking into the village an experience. Very stylish interior, we felt at home at the Owl Pine.

Michael and Cat have a little piece of heaven in Idyllwild, and we had so much fun enjoying it with our two kids. The property itself is a kid’s paradise, with plenty of exploring and adventuring in the beautiful trees, pathways, boulders and creek. The cabin was perfect for the four of us- Michael and Cat let us borrow their air mattresses for the kids and we were cozy and happy up in the sleeping loft. We had such a great time getting to know Michael and Cat and their two kids on our last day there, as well; they are such a lovely family and made us feel like old friends (Cat even sent us home with freshly picked wild mint!). We truly can’t wait to return.

The photos do not do the this wonderful place justice ! More than expected- walking distance to the village , very secluded , and a sweet trail next to the strawberry creek. Every detail Michael and Cat have mastered, from the games , record player , noise machine , and everything you need in the kitchen ! As well as detailed info on what’s close - shops , restaurants, and hikes. You will not be disappointed. I would suggest adding on all the extra - brisket , scones , lattes and a welcome cocktails !

I grew up in the nearby area and used to come up to idyllwild all the time as a kid so appreciated how this cabin is in walking distance to everything in town yet still giving you that "Mountain & creek" experience. Everything was exactly as described, very well appointed, Michael was a great host, and yah, the scones are the bomb

Michael and Cat are awesome hosts! They welcome you in and make you feel as those you live on the property during your stay, allowing you to wander around as you please. They are quick to respond to questions and offer assistance without hovering. We loved their thoughtful binder of places to eat and visit in town. The cabin is clean and homely, only a short walk into town. They have truly thought of everything!

In the Summer 2016 we had been living in LA's Silver Lake neighborhood (think Whole Foods + a wine shop across the street, amazing food, and access to everything LA has to offer) for over a decade when we stumbled upon this property in Idyllwild. We literally fell in love with the landscape before stepping foot in the houses, put our place up for sell 10 days later and moved to the mountain. We work freelance gigs in business development and PR and love to explore nature, cook and adventure with the babes in our '69 Silver Streak trailer. Launching The Owl Pine has allowed us to meet amazing people and live in this magical location. Thanks for considering our place for your next adventure!
