Our spacious home just two blocks from Merewether's famous beach is ideal for a couple. Guests enjoy a firm double bed in a spacious, dark, quiet bedroom and their own large bathroom. A healthy home-made multi-grain muesli with fruit and yogurt for breakfast is provided. The house is shared with the owners who have a separate bedroom and bathroom. The beach and ocean baths are just two blocks easy walk. Lingard Hospital is close by as are restaurants, shops and buses. Parking is free.

The space

Our Federation house is lovingly restored offering a warm homely stay. One of its main features is the long wide hallway and high California redwood ceilings. The large bedroom has a firm double bed and ceiling fan for hot nights and good old fashioned hot water bottles for winter! Guests enjoy the exclusive use of a spacious bathroom with bath and shower and share the living areas with the owners. There is a separate room with sofa bed for one or two more adult guests.
From the back deck guests can enjoy a peaceful garden setting with Australian native plants and birds, vegetable patch, bee hive and lawn.

Guest access

Guests come and go as they please via the front door. There is plenty of free parking on the street outside the house. Guests enjoy exclusive use of the main bathroom. Other spaces are shared with the owners.
The laundry offers undercover and/or sunny drying conditions as well as a dryer.

Interaction with guests

We welcome fellow travelers to share stories and to ask about local events, sites and attractions. We mostly like doing this over food and drinks!! It means sharing a glass of wine, freshly brewed coffee or a range of tea options with a snack.

Other things to note

We have a cat "Millie' who keeps to herself, mostly outside sleeping, as you do if you're a cat!! We also keep an Urban Hum bee hive on the roof of the garage. And garden produces herbs and seasonal veggies.

Phil & Marie are not just Super Hosts, they are Exceptional Hosts! They are so kind and thoughtful and we really felt welcome in their beautiful home. They live just near the sea and there is a great walk along the sea front to the city. They have a cute little cat called Millie who loves cuddles. This has definitely been the best AirBnB (of many) we have stayed in. RECOMMENDED!!

Response from Phil & Marie:
Thanks for the update on the cockroach Paul. Its a battle to stay on top of them especially in summer, but yes, having one in the guest bedroom is not good. All the best to you and Olga. Cheers Phil

We are a recently retired couple who live in a lovingly restored Federation home two blocks from Merewether Beach in Newcastle. We enjoy meeting new people and sharing travel stories. We've traveled a lot over the past 40 years and believe its a great way to meet people and to build understanding and tolerance. Our interests include cycling, swimming, reading, cinema, ukuleles and varied cultural events. We know Newcastle and the Hunter Valley well and are happy to advise visitors about places to see and things to do.
