This recently renovated Welsh cottage with original features, modern appliances and cosy woodburner is situated above the village of Garndolbenmaen, near Porthmadog. This is a perfect, romantic retreat for two situated along a quiet lane with stunning panoramic westerly views over Cardigan Bay and the Llyn peninsula. The cottage is well-placed to explore Snowdon (30 minutes away), the Llyn peninsula (right in front of you) and the quiet coves and beaches of Anglesey (30 minutes away).

The space

Characterful 200 year old Welsh stone cottage, lovingly renovated to a high standard. Situated along a quiet track with plenty of off-road parking and secure bike storage.
There are lots of great places to eat nearby: The Goat Inn is 1.5 miles away, The Golden Fleece Inn and The Square Restaurant are 5 miles away, to name a few. Check out the Guidebook for more information. Please note that our local pub in the village has now closed.

Guest access

Guests have access to the front garden (with stunning views over the sea and mountains on the Llyn peninsula), patio area at front of the property, own entrance area, separate parking and access to the bike storage facility.

Interaction with guests

The owner lives on the property and is happy to share local information and help with Welsh translation (learning Welsh currently). Check out the Visitors Books for extra information about places to visit locally

Mark was an exceptional host. Very friendly and welcoming. The cottage had been renovated to a very high standard with attention to every detail. The welcome basket and "share" cupboard were nice touches. Cottage ideally placed for exploration of Snowdonia, and in a nice quiet village setting with pleasant outlook. We would certainly recommend the cottage to other travelers.

Our host, Mark, was friendly and helpful from the start. We had a lovely hamper of wine, Welsh Cakes and marmalade waiting for us, which was a very pleasant surprise. The cottage had everything you would need, from literature and maps to plan walks in Snowdon National Park or the Llyn Peninsula, to plenty of fuel for the wood burner in the evenings. A perfect place to stay for exploring this beautiful part of N. Wales and Mark made sure we were comfortable and happy, highly recommended.

Beautiful cottage lovingly restored. We really enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the area although close to all the attractions. Cottage set up with everything you need and more. The welcome pack of wine, Welsh cakes and jam was lovely. The only downside was that the local pub to walk to has now closed but we cosied down with the log burner and wine so all good.

Response from Mark:
Thanks for mentioning the recent local pub closure, Laura. I had removed information from the Guestbook about the pub once it closed but of course it can appear in earlier reviews from guests who had walked down to it. I will make an extra note in the Guestbook just to be clear.

This refurbished cottage is absolutely beautiful. As a historic building specialist I was particular impressed by Mark's tasteful renovation which has brought this lovely stone cottage into the 21st Century whilst still maintaining all its charm.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful inside and out. In a perfect location for exploring Snowdonia. Mark was a brilliant host, who went out of his way to make us welcome even though he couldn't be there in person. The cottage is full of home comforts, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Our only regret is that we didn't book for longer. Looking forward to coming back next year.
