The space

Just a 20 minute ferry ride from Portland. A magical third floor room in an artist's creative, quirky, ever-evolving home/ work of art. (shared bathroom on first floor.) If you're a writer, this is for you. A beautiful, quiet, airy, sunny bedroom in the tower of a whimsical home which is not fully completed. One block from the bay beach.

Your host, Ted is an old hippie who is young at heart, who will share his eclectic home, warm hospitality, and ideas for a fun-filled island adventure. Enjoy bicycling or hiking around the island, exploring the rocky shore-line, relaxing on the beach and dining at local restaurants. Get away from it all to this memorable and beautiful island spot! Stay here for a laid back island experience and a tower view of sunsets over the Diamond Islands in beautiful Casco Bay that's priceless.

Please note: Third floor bedroom with shared bathroom on first floor. You will have to walk through an area under-renovation, or down deck stairs to get to first floor.

How do you get here?

You can either park your car for free at your own risk on the street in Portland, at the ferry terminal in Portland for $25.00/ day, or bring your car on the ferry (see below for rates). If you are coming by foot, you can either make arrangements with Ted for pick-up in advance, take the Island Taxi to "Ted's Place," or walk for one mile on Island Avenue to Ted's house. Let Ted know in advance if you would like a ride to or from the ferry for $3.00 per person if more than one, and $5.00 for single person. Either way, we recommend you pack lightly, bringing only what you will need for the time you will stay.

So, Ted's Place. Where to begin. Ted is a quirky, artist, hippie, type which I truly appreciate and his shared home is a true reflection of that. Part studio, performance space, antique store, crash pad, island getaway it is an amazing and befuddling space. My partner and I sta…

Response from Ted:
Ashlee, I believe it's unfair to suggest, you left early because of the amount of people in the household. Especially, when you messaged me the morning of your arrival and messaged me that you would have to leave a day earlier than expected. There were 3 other couples staying in the main house but the house is over 4 thousand square feet of living space. The bedrooms are privately tucked away on 3 levels, like suites and the large spaces provide room to congregate, where you'll meet some of the most unbelievable, interesting, and well versed guests and friends. I'm so impressed with the wonderful folks coming from anywhere on the planet. 3 of the bedrooms have private sinks for personal care and hygiene which also helps cut down time with bathroom use. For emergencies, there's a second bathroom on the lower level and a third being built on the second floor. There is also an outside shower for nature lovers. I do share the kitchen with those that wish. You only need to ask for anything, as I inform all on the welcome note I provide with wine and chocolate. As an added opportunity, I sometimes offer an adventure to 'the tunnel of darkness. I don't believe I threaten boundaries. When your boyfriend Flower, who I very much enjoyed, exhibited anxiousness and fear, I took you out of the tunnel where you stayed under a billion stars. The other couples were thrilled with the experience and completely bonded. I know my place isn't perfect for everyone but from the hundreds of guests that pass through each year, I know I'm doing something right! I wish you and Flower well on your adventures and I am sorry my place didn't fit your needs. Sincerely, Teddie ^

Ted is a kind and welcoming host. The house is as described. Tower deck is not only relaxing, but an awesome view. Excellent location to walk to ferry/store, but also a stone's throw from beach. Thank you Ted!

Ted's place was so comfortable. Ted contacted me before arrival to be sure I had the details to make our trip a success. We had had a long day prior to arriving so it was a pleasure to sit out on the deck and unwind before going to bed. Ted was available to us but we certainly…

Ted was a delightful host with a warm personality and a cozy home to match. We had arrived later than expected at 10pm, but he had called earlier in the day to keep lines of communication open. He was very knowledgable of the local activities and points of interest on Peak's Is…

Ted was great to communicate with and even welcomed us with a personal card along with a bottle of wine. He had suggestions for the island and was more than willing to let us use bikes to traverse the island. He even offered us his canoe to use if we wanted. Ted was a gracious…
