Casa Juan is a restored stone house, in front of the majestic Fortaleza Table Mountain....without any neighbors and a fantastic ocean view. If you looking for a nice quiet place, where you can escape from all the hustle & bustle to calm down and reset your Mind.....this is it...! The house is located on 850m over sea level, close to the national park, and there are many hiking trails next to it. It takes 35min down to the Beach at the Valle Gran Ray, with the car. A rental car is necessary!

The space

The House is located on a hill slope, and there are a lot of cholla cactus`, the area mirrors the wild and natural part of La Gomera. Some of the paths are inter grown and stony. They are not able for unattended children , and handicapped people. At night please don`t walk without a torch light, there are no street lamps. Please use only the official hiking trails. There are a lot close to the house.

Interaction with guests

If you have Questions or Problems, you can cal or mail me. My Neighbors are located 300 yards from the house, they speak german & english...they also will bring you to the house and handle the house keys. After arriving in San Sebastian, you can settle up an appointment over the phone with them.

Other things to note

The house is located on 850m over sea level...sometimes in the winter months the weather can be uncomfortable ( Cloudy & Wind) and cool at Night. But most time there is sunny. If its cool you can fire the stove in the house. Firewood is stored in the backyard. When you arriving at night, a torch lamp is necessary, there are no street lamps on the path from the parking lot to the house (20yards).

We can only confirm all existing reviews of this place: wonderful, sublime, magnificent! And very, very quiet! We couldn't have imagined a more cozy house on a more breathtaking hill slope with sea view from 900 meters height (sometimes you can't even see where the sea passes into the sky) :-) A big thank-you to the most wonderful and charming neighbours you could wish for, Reinhard and Micheline, for picking us up and being there!

We really enjoyed staying at Casa Juan. It is located in a beautiful place, the view from the house is amazing. You will be lulled by the sound of the goats and the sheeps if you decide to stay there. Many places are worth being explored around the cottage and maps, guides are at your disposal in the house. We were welcomed by Michael's neighbours, who are really very nice, willing to help us. We highly recommend this house. Vanessa, yannice, Maël and Elena

The description of this property is accurate but we were still very impressed with both the house and the stunning views. The location is fantastic, especially for hiking. We ate in every night and enjoyed sitting on the terrace, after an aperitif or two at Sonia's bar in Chipude. We will definitely plan to return next year. Roy and Debs, Nottingham, UK.

Casa Juan is a perfect quiet place with a beatifull view. The interior is very nicely decorated and very homey. The house was clean and offered everything needed for a week stay. If you are looking for a peacefull place to stay on Gomera, this is it.

Casa Juan is an amazing small cottage with different and stunning views that change from moring till evening. We specifically looked for a house with no direct neighbours, for the necessary piece & quiet and that is exactly what we got! The neighbours are not that far away if needed and the village of Chipude is just on the other side of the mountain. The casa is even more beautiful than in the pictures and has everything you need to get by. We stayed there for 1 week with a rental car but public transportation is good on the whole island en the bus stops regularly in the town of Chipude. Thank you Michael for sharing your beautiful place with us, it was lovely! (We will be back!) Kind regards, Roel & Meta

We were recommended to visit La Gomera by a friend and were not disappointed - it's a fabulous island, very quiet and unspoilt with few tourists, amazing weather and scenery that takes your breath away. Michael's place is in a great area from which to explore and do hikes through the national park, and is overlooked by the majestic and iconic mountain of La Fortaleza. It takes about 1 hour to drive there from the port of San Sebastian (roads on Gomera are windy but excellent). The local town Chipude is small but has all the essentials you need (cashpoint, shop, bar, pharmacy etc). There is also a pretty nice beach at Valle Gran Rey (30 mins drive) if that's your thing. Best of all though, Casa Juan itself is a fantastic, secret hideaway with lots of rustic charm and great facilities for guests. The highlights are the superb private outdoor spaces from which you can enjoy the views across the valley towards the mountains and the sea. Having breakfast every day in the sun with only the sound of birds of prey swooping above and the stillness of the valley beneath you was something we'll never forget.. hope to be back again one day!

We feel really lucky to have found 'Casa Juan' for our stay on La Gomera. The photos shown here only hint at the beauty of the surroundings. We loved waking up to clouds crawling up over the adjacent mountains and going to sleep by the warmth of the wood stove. The view down the valley to the ocean was really spectacular as were the sunsets. We spent our days exploring the island or on the beaches at Valle Gran Rey and Playa de Santiago both a bit more than 1/2 hr car rides (twisty but beautiful ones, the roads are amazingly well maintained on La Gomera). Hiking is also an option and there is plenty to explore even in the immediate surroundings of the house. Michael did a great job giving the place a warm and inviting vibe and the neighbors, Micheline and Reinhard who were there to greet us and show us the ins and outs of the cottage were really lovely people who we can now count as our friends. At the same time the house is secluded enough to give the feeling that you have the whole side of the mountain to yourself. Heating of the home is done by wood fire on chillier evenings, the bathroom is pretty basic (but nice),you may have to change the propane canister for the kitchen stove(we didn't and it worked perfectly), we didn't find any of these things to be negative but I suppose they are worth noting for some travelers. The nearby town of Chipude has a friendly little shop with all the basic necessities for cooking, etc. All in all our time at 'Casa Juan' will always remember very fondly, we would gladly have stayed for longer if we could have and we look forward to making a return visit.
