A single room with en suite bathroom and air-conditioning. Bright and airy with a view into the courtyard. It is our cheapest room but still enjoys the full facilities of the house with attractive courtyard, roof terrace with shaded areas and great breakfasts!

The space

Dar Drissi is a traditional house in the ancient Fez Medina. The house is at least 250 years old. It has been extensively restored using traditional crafts to complement its original features, most of which survive intact. It has been converted into a charming guest house with five bedrooms, each with modern en-suite facilities discreetly installed to preserve its original ambience.
The house is in the heart of the Medina, close to shops, restaurants and sight-seeing locations. There is a courtyard and a large roof terrace with sheltered seating and views over the Medina and of the Atlas Mountains beyond.
Breakfasts are served between 8 and 10am. You are usually asked when you arrive what time suits you best. There is plenty to eat and drink - typically: Coffee or tea, fresh squeezed orange juice, French and Moroccan breads, butter, soft cheese, jam, yogurt; an egg and/or cereal if you would like them.
This single room is called the Merinid Room. It contains a double bed and has an en suite bathroom attached. It is the smallest and cheapest of our five rooms and has limited storage space for your bags and clothes. Other, larger rooms are separately listed on this site.
The rental price includes breakfast, clean towels and bed linen and daily room cleaning. TVA (VAT) and local taxes are included.
Our friendly staff will look after you from your arrival in Fez to your eventual departure. We will assist you with all matters to maximise the enjoyment of your stay with us.

Guest access

Free Wifi is provided. (Ask the manager for the security key). The courtyard and roof terrace are available throughout the day and evening. You may use the house kitchen during the day to prepare your own food and beverages if you so choose. On your departure day, after checking out of your room you can leave your bags in the house (at your own risk) until your departure later in the day. (There is also a toilet off the courtyard that is available).

Interaction with guests

Our manager Kibir always meets and greets you on arrival, answers all your questions and can assist with guides, restaurants etc. As well as his native tongue, he speaks French, English and a little Italian and Spanish. He serves breakfast and will ensure that you are fully briefed and happy to venture out into the Medina and beyond. He will even give you his cell phone number in case of emergencies.

Manager is very helpful. He picked up from the meeting point at 4am and prepared breakfast at 6am just because I need to catch a bus at 7am. If want to buy any souvenir can seek his help. The room is good and quiet!

Fantastic! The host is responsible and scrupulous, give me a lot of suggestions and find a good guide for me. The house is the traditional Morocco house with nice infrastructure. The rooftop is quite, clean and have a good view. The location is easy to find. The breakfast is fantastic. The best time in fes is stay on the rooftop and waiting for the sun rise.

Julian wasn't there as he works out of the U.K. He responded to messages, but his manager at the Riad did all the work. He was kind and a taxi had been arranged for my pickup which went smoothly. He took me from the car lot to inside the medina and showed me to the Riad. Overall, a good experience. The room was nice and clean though I feel like the walls could be painted or washed? I know it's old and they want to keep the character but this is one area where an improvement could be made. The manger tried to help me book a tour into the Sahara but didn't know much so I ended up doing my own research. It would have been nice to have someone who knew about the tours and what a good price would be.. But c'est la vie. Overall, very good.

Response from Julian:
In response to Joel's suggestion about painting the walls: The type of plaster (mudluk) is traditional for these ancient houses and we have adhered fully to traditional methods during our restoration. Paint has never been used. There are natural variations in the colouring, which can seem as if they are dirty, but they are not.

I had a wonderful visit at Dar Drissi. It has a great location in the medina, and easy to find once you spot the signs leading to it. Kabir was very welcoming and kind. He provided me with a lot of information and a map, voluntarily showing me places I should visit during my stay. Breakfast was great, served between 9-10. However, I should note that I had accidentally left behind about 12 shirts in a clothes drawer. I packed very early in the morning and left to the train station where I sat with my bag above me in first class. I then went to my next destination in a taxi in Tangier, opened my bag and discovered that I had no shirts. I called first thing the next morning, and asked about it, but I was notified that the cleaning lady did not find anything in the room. I emailed Julian, who is not in the country and in the UK I believe, and explained my situation. He thought it was ridiculous that I accused his staff of perhaps taking my things. (Hey, these things happen all the time in the industry all the time! Happened to many people I know, including my wife) After I first told him of me being with my bag all the way, he then said someone must have went into my bag and stolen my shirts. Right! They bypassed my camera and electronics, and took the shirts, and then perfectly packed my bag in proper order! No use arguing when I am so far away, its a lose-lose situation. Even though this will never be settled, I had a wonderful stay and would recommend it.
