A stunning 'Mansion in miniature', Casterne is set in its own 30 acres with utterly outstanding views.

Beautiful, remote and set the top of the Manifold Valley in the Peak District it is still within easy reach of all amenities but all you will hear in this romantic haven is bird song and the sound of silence!

Big reductions for midweek bookings!

Three course candlelit silver service dinners, lunches or picnics on request.

Dogs welcome for a small surcharge.

The space

Casterne Hall is a Grade 2* manor house voted one of Britain's favourite houses by 'Country Life' readers.

The house is set out over three floors with the following bedrooms: three super king, one king, two twins and two singles ( the beds are 3/4 size so slightly bigger than single but smaller than a double). Two of the bedrooms are en-suite with three bathrooms in total. Currently we have only hand-held showers. All bedrooms are individually and beautifully furnished with Egyptian cotton linen, feather toppers and electric blankets, white fluffy towels and bathrobes to give you a truly luxurious and memorable stay. Tea and coffee facilities are in every room.

On the top floor is a large Sitting Room with wood burner, kitchenette, multi-channel TV, games, DVDs, Wi-Fi and large dining table.

Downstairs you have The Oak Room - a unique panelled sitting room in addition to a very large and beautiful Drawing Room, perfect for entertaining and also The Main Hall itself for dining in. The Kitchen is vast and fully equipped with an Aga, induction hob, double oven and large fridge freezer.

Guests are welcome to use the extensive gardens and grounds, including the sunny terrace and barbecue area.

By arrangement a full English cooked breakfast can be served with home-made jams and eggs from our own happy free range chickens! We can also provide silver service candle-lit dinners, lunches or picnics.

Rates at high days and holidays may differ from those advertised.

Guest access

We welcome everybody into our home. The owner, the author of 'On Foot in the Peak District', is very knowledgeable about the area and is usually on hand to offer advice and information.

We can provide lunch and supper by arrangement at an additional cost and packed lunches if required. Caroline is fully trained cook with many years experience so you can choose between a gourmet three course dinner with silver service or a simple country supper. Most of the vegetables and fruits come from our own kitchen garden and eggs from our happy hens who roam the hills!

Charles and Caroline are on hand to help with all aspects of your stay from advising on the many walks from your doorstep ( Charles has had books published on the subject) to making reservations at restaurants/pubs or receiving online orders of groceries should you require this.

With advance notice we are happy to take delivery of an online shop for you.

Charles and Caroline made us feel so welcome in their home. What a glorious magical place. We had my mum's hen do there and did a murder mystery night - which the setting couldn't have been more perfect. A real gem of a place. Thank you so much Charles and Caroline
