Sunny three-bedroom with extra office nook, lots of windows, well-equipped kitchen in a diverse and welcoming centrally-located neighborhood. Private entrance, large private 2nd floor balcony, off-street parking, free laundry, shared front & back yards with BBQ, and great selection of restaurants, food trucks, take-out, cafes, and a brewery within short walking distance. On a main thoroughfare, near buses and light-rail, and steps from the Midtown Greenway, the central biking/walking corridor.

The space

The space is the entire upper floor of the building, and fills up with light, especially in the afternoons. It’s a nice, flowing space, with three bedrooms, a small separate office nook, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, very comfy beds with a king, a queen (both low-profile latex mattresses), and a double bed. The sofa in the living room folds out to a double bed if desired. The building is from 1909, and has the big windows, high ceilings, (and creaky floors) you would expect from an older home. One room is currently set up as a kids bedroom, (though can accommodate adults in the king bed), and the whole apartment is pretty kid safe, with doors between the main apartment and both front and back stairs, safety bars on some windows, balcony railings to code height or above, etc.

The large private balcony/porch runs the entire width of the front of the house, and in warmer weather (approx April to October) is a great place to sit and have coffee, casual meals, etc. Heat in the home is via old-fashioned radiators, and AC is several window units, not central air. We have wifi, off-street parking, and free laundry in the basement, shared only with our downstairs neighbors.

Guest access

The apartment has a private entrance in the front of the building, and the entire second floor is yours, including the outdoor balcony. Our downstairs neighbors are very accessible if desired, but the layout of the building allows for complete privacy if preferred.

Interaction with guests

As much or as little as you would like. Jeremy and Melinda live downstairs, and are happy to help get you situated and to tell you more about the neighborhood and surroundings, if you desire. They will also coordinate logistics and arrival, etc. We (Steven and Jenny) will be out of town if you are coming, but are also happy to interact over the phone or email, if you have additional questions. Jeremy and Melinda have a friendly, hypoallergenic dog named Kyrie downstairs, but the upstairs apartment is completely pet and dander free.

Apartment is a great value for the price offered on AirBnB ($75 a night); the space was as amazing as it looked online in photos. We enjoyed having so much space to feel comfortable in as if it was our own home. The bathroom and kitchen are very cute and quite functional. Shampoo and conditioner are provider. The living room is spacious and boasts a comfortable couch and sheepskin rug for napping/chilling/reading books from the amazing book collection Steven and Jenny have going there (critical race theory/feminist media studies/desert plants/etcetcetc). Pretty fly selection. Also there is a DOPE speaker that you can hook your phone up to for some wicked bass-heavy surround sound tunes. As for sleeping- There are three bedrooms. We only slept in the master bedroom next to the porch but the bed was relatively comfortable. It was on the floor, but you have options for other rooms if you want a lifted bed. Curtains were cute Japanese style and let a fair amount of morning light in. The neighborhood was great in some aspects, kind of a cultural hodgepodge; we enjoyed watching the neighbor kids playing games in the street while we chilled on the awesome and spacious balcony, and there's a world market nearby. However, late at night there are a mix of people ranging between average and sketchy roaming about the streets. There were also a fair bit of ambulance calls one night that woke us up; not sure what that was about. We didn't feel unsafe but it felt a little like we were in a rougher part of the city. Regardless of that I would still stay here again; this pad was a great launching point for our various activities/events and was very comfortable and private. I would recommend having a car as walking places in Minneapolis is much less convenient and very time consuming. We were able to get to the house quickly (within 20 minutes) from the airport and often found ourselves on the same nearby street (Cedar) going everywhere we needed uptown and downtown. We enjoyed our friend's wedding and exploring the city for three days. We coordinated with Jeremy and he went above and beyond to communicate with us and even let us check in early right after our flights. There was a parking spot in the back alley for our car, which was nice. We even enjoyed making it over to Matt's Bar, a super close (walking distance) restaurant that is renowned for its Juicy Lucys (a very cheesy baked cheeseburger). Highly recommend! Stay here (especially if you are a family or a couple, or an introverted person doing some creative work on your own time, you'll have lots of space and inspiration around ya).

I visited with my wife, my parents, my sister, and her family (including two babies). The apartment was a great size for all of us, and the rooms insulated sound well. It wouldn't work very well to walk the city from there, but if you have a car or two, it seems like just about anything in the city is a comfortable fifteen-minute drive, which makes it ideal for doing a bunch of different things.

We enjoyed our stay in Midtown! Great Mexican food was right around the corner and all sorts of activities on Minneapolis bus lines and light rail were easily accessible. We especially appreciated the excellent wifi and working space, a comfortable bed and the fresh linens that welcomed us to the city after our long flight. We expected the squeaky floors of an older building but were surprised at the frequency of EMS sirens down the street in front of the house. Both hosts and downstairs neighbors responded quickly and helpfully to unexpected issues.

The hosts provided awesome hospitality! From check-in to check-out, they were there for any questions, and provided everything we needed. If you like Mexican food...this is definitely the spot! There are limitless authentic Mexican cuisines in the area! Great place to stay!!

It was pretty large house and look nice. Besides, it was comportable place. However, the floor was little bit squeeky.

This place was great for a visit to see our friends in the city. We have a toddler and the place is very kid-friendly, with lots of toys and books, a high chair, and cabinet locks. Fully stocked kitchen (nice cast iron, good knives, dishwasher) and spacious sunny rooms. We enjoyed the porch too! This is an older house with creaky floors. The street is a throughfare and the Lake Street neighborhood is very active, so I preferred to sleep in one of the back rooms, less noise. The tamales down the street were delicious. Nice to have off street parking. Jenny was very quick to respond.

We are media artists and teachers who travel regularly for work and also live elsewhere part-time. We’ve owned our South Minneapolis duplex for almost ten years, and with the help of our fabulous and long-time downstairs neighbors Jeremy and Melinda, we host folks in our upstairs apartment while we are out of town. We have a toddler and a teenager, and families are most welcome. We're also occasionally looking for simple and easy places to stay when we're on the road, often in the Bay Area, Seattle, and the East coast. We're responsible, friendly, and rent to others so we know what that's like and how to leave a place in good shape, and we usually don't need a lot of hosting or assistance.
Thanks, Jenny & Steven
