The cottage is situated on Kemp Lake - 15 min past Sooke. It has 2 bdr, full kitchen, washer/dryer and large living /dining area with a wood burning fireplace. There are lots of games and books for rainy days. A kayak/canoe plus rowboat provide access to the lake which is stocked with trout. Lounge on the wharf, roast hot dogs over the fire pit or just sit on the deck and gaze at the stars. The Galloping Goose, the famous Sooke Potholes and countless trails and beaches are there to explore.

The space

The cabin was built by loggers during the 1960's who cut down the trees, hewed the beams and built a cottage! It has over the years has been updated to include a dishwasher, 4 piece bathroom, skylight and fully equipped kitchen. However there is still a 1957 push button stove that works just great.
There are 2 Queen bed with cozy duvets and a single futon which could be used as a single bed.

Guest access

In addition to the cottage there is a wood shed which is well stocked and sure to keep the fire going. A separate tool shed has fishing rods, paddles, life jackets and paddle boards. There is a front and back yard with a great swing for the kids and two outside tables for lunches in the sun.

Interaction with guests

i am available all the time by phone in case you need assistance. Otherwise I will let you enjoy the cottage as if it was yours.

Other things to note

Sooke is a very rural community and during high wind storms is subject to power outages. However they do not usually last long and there are lamps in the window cupboard and you can draw water from the lake for the toilet.
It is not advisable to drink the water from the tap but it is safe for cooking and cleaning. Drinking water is provided in large water containers with a pump

Our family of 3 just returned from one week at this special cabin. It was the most welcoming, relaxing and beautiful of settings we've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Check-in was simple and hassle-free. The cabin was fully equipped with everything we needed for an enjoyable, comfortable stay. The view from the living room was incredible, looking out over the charming dock and serene lake. The bedrooms were cozy. The decor was lovely. We had originally planned a number of day trips, but ended up cancelling all but a swimming trip to the Sooke Potholes, because there wasn't anything to compare with what we had right on our doorstep! Our son had a blast on his first kayaking experience, swinging on the tree swing, and catching minnows in the shallows, I got plenty of use out of the full-size kayak and row boat, and my husband's favourite was the canoe -- so much to choose from! We swam, we fished, we roasted marshmallows in the fire pit, we spent hours on the comfy loungers just reading and taking in the view. The neighbours to the left were very friendly and welcoming and we even got to enjoy a little Canada Day fireworks display courtesy of the neighbours to the right. We ventured out for lunch a couple of times at the Kemp Lake Music Cafe, where everyone was so friendly (and the fries were great!). But mostly we just stayed put and really enjoyed the beautiful weather, comfy accommodations and incredible setting. What a magical start to the summer. I have to admit, all three of us were a little choked up when we took one last lake-front picture and then locked up to go home this morning. We're already crossing our fingers that there will be a week available for us next summer. Thanks so much for everything!

Amazing view with an entire wall of windows facing the lake. Adorable swing hanging from the trees outside with lots of boats to take out on the water. Full kitchen, with lovely cutlery, dishes and all the cooking items we needed for our vacation. Comfy couches and a lounge chair in the living room we took a nap on. Definitely will be going back!
