The El Nido studio is one of four units in a private, walled compound, each with their own separate entry. Built originally in the late 1940s, as an apartment over a garage, the studio has been recently renovated and decorated, as has the entire compound. The upstairs studio is 445 square feet and planned for efficiency with all the comforts of home. The large, main room features large widows and a south-facing view of the courtyard garden below. It has hardwood floors throughout the main room and the kitchen.

The large main room serves as a sitting and dining room, as well as the bedroom with a comfortable, new queen-size bed. Free wireless Internet and a large, vintage walnut desk and chair are provided. A new evaporative cooling system and heater will ensure your stay in Tucson anytime of year will be comfortable. Please note that the apartment does not have conventional air conditioning.

The bathroom and kitchen have been fully updated with modern amenities. The kitchen includes a small four-burner gas stove with an oven, a microwave oven, a refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster, and is fully equipped for simple meal preparation The bathroom features an extra large glass enclosed, walk-in shower, a vanity with a black granite countertop and amble lighting and large mirror. The room is beautifully finished with white subway tiles and a classical hexagonal tile floor with black accents.

Guest access

Enter the compound through the carport and pass through the central courtyard to the two-story studio building in the rear. The El Nido studio is the upper unit, and is accessed up the stairs on the right side of the building. The central Courtyard is for use by all the guests at La Casa Catalina, but the studio has a small, upstairs deck for your exclusive use.

A clothes washer and dryer on the premises are available for guest use – please inquire about access. Safe street parking is available without a permit, and no matter where you are, it’s always a good idea to keep your car locked at all times.

Interaction with guests

I live in the main house at the front of the property, and I will personally welcome guests when they arrive and be readily accessible to answer questions or requests. If you need me, I’m happy to share my knowledge of the neighborhood and help you find whatever you need in Tucson – places to eat and things to do and see.

A security deposit and a cleaning fee are required.
We try to conserve water here in the desert, so please be mindful.
There is also a blue recycling bin is available in the carport, and regular trash with pick up is on Monday mornings in the alley.

Katherine's place was great! Perfect size, not too big and not too small. Everything was very clean and up to date! The bathroom has a gorgeous shower. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils in case there was a desire to prepare your own meals. The bed was comfortable. Katherine was a great host, very welcoming and helpful if needed. I would most definitely stay here again!

We loved our stay at Katherine's place so much that we will book again for future Tuscan trips. It was quiet, newly renovated, very clean, quaint and a tastefully decorated accommodation. You can't go wrong staying here, and won't be disappointed.

We wish we could have stayed longer! We stayed here for three days on a business trip. Katherine greeted us when we arrived and was super friendly and helpful throughout our visit (even offering us delicious oranges and granola). Her property is amazing - manicured yet rustic in a very cool Southwestern courtyard style. The apartment itself is wonderful- clean, organized, and efficient. Lots of great features for business travelers as well- plenty of desk space for laptops, fast free Wifi, and numerous power outlets. The kitchen and bathroom were great as well- we loved the fluffy towels! Last but not least- the birds! Lots of songbirds live in the trees on the property, providing a park-like atmosphere. Although we were there on business, it felt like a vacation. Thanks again Katherine- can't wait to return in the near future!

Stay here!! From the peaceful and serene garden to the immaculately designed apartment, Katherine's place El Nido is an absolute gem. It's a desert oasis within close proximity to town and a quick walk to a perfect little market. Highly recommended.

Katherine's place was AMAZING! It exceeded our expectations. The neighborhood was lovely, quiet, very residential and made for great walks. The unit, one of two available on airbnb was beyond perfect. The design and decor was impeccable yet comfortable. It was a great mix of local art and textiles, mixed with some mid-century pieces. The kitchen was perfect for small meals and had the perfect amount of implements perfectly organized. The fiesta ware dishes were a great combination of the southwest and mid-century styles. The bed was very comfortable with a nice quilted cotton coverlet, perfect for the warm climate. Katherine was a great host, available and aware, but not obvious. We felt like personal guests in her home. The whole place is newly renovated with simple and elegant finishes. The units surround a small courtyard with beautiful desert fauna and intimate seating areas. As a designer of hotels, I was inspired by the design and the entire experience was exceptional. We will be back soon!
