The El Nido studio is one of four units in a private, walled compound, each with their own separate entry. Built originally in the late 1940s, as an apartment over a garage, the studio has been recently renovated and decorated, as has the entire compound. The upstairs studio is 445 square feet and planned for efficiency with all the comforts of home. The large, main room features large widows and a south-facing view of the courtyard garden below. It has hardwood floors throughout the main room and the kitchen.
The large main room serves as a sitting and dining room, as well as the bedroom with a comfortable, new queen-size bed. Free wireless Internet and a large, vintage walnut desk and chair are provided. A new evaporative cooling system and heater will ensure your stay in Tucson anytime of year will be comfortable. Please note that the apartment does not have conventional air conditioning.
The bathroom and kitchen have been fully updated with modern amenities. The kitchen includes a small four-burner gas stove with an oven, a microwave oven, a refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster, and is fully equipped for simple meal preparation The bathroom features an extra large glass enclosed, walk-in shower, a vanity with a black granite countertop and amble lighting and large mirror. The room is beautifully finished with white subway tiles and a classical hexagonal tile floor with black accents.
Enter the compound through the carport and pass through the central courtyard to the two-story studio building in the rear. The El Nido studio is the upper unit, and is accessed up the stairs on the right side of the building. The central Courtyard is for use by all the guests at La Casa Catalina, but the studio has a small, upstairs deck for your exclusive use.
A clothes washer and dryer on the premises are available for guest use – please inquire about access. Safe street parking is available without a permit, and no matter where you are, it’s always a good idea to keep your car locked at all times.
Interaction with guests
I live in the main house at the front of the property, and I will personally welcome guests when they arrive and be readily accessible to answer questions or requests. If you need me, I’m happy to share my knowledge of the neighborhood and help you find whatever you need in Tucson – places to eat and things to do and see.
