Ancient trulli located in the country between Alberobello and Locorotondo. The former residences of the shepherds of the Puglia region, the "Trulli" feature the typical stone roofs in the shape of a cone.

The space

A stay in these Trulli allows to disclose authentic atmospheres, while deeply immersed in the sounds and colours of a strong wild land. It's a multiple property made of 2 units, each one equipped with 2 bedrooms and sleeping capacity up to 5. The property is located in the countryside between Alberobello and Locorotondo, in the famous Itria Valley. Swimming pool shared between the two units.

The property is dated approximately 1700 and it has been restored keeping the most of the original features, both internally and externally (eg stone floors). The property is made of 12 cones and includes two independent units with two dedicated external areas and one swimming pool to be shared. The external space is tiled with local stone and equipped with tables, chairs, beach umbrellas, barbecues, sunbeds, deckchairs. There's a nice garden with Mediterranean flowers and plants. The property originally was a small farm where life of humans was strict to life of animals; one unit was infact used as a house, the other as a stable.

In these trulli you may find all the architectural elements that distinguish trulli from any other buildings are: the stone arcs, the cones, the ledge, the chimneypot, the gutters and the spout, the "chianche" (flat stones) roof, the pinnacle and the several symbols used for the decoration (monograms, emblems, initials and magical signs).

The whole structure is built with local limestone. Made of concentric stone rings, the trullo's roof is laid on the supporting structure, with a slight overhang towards the interior. The structure is painted with lime, while the roof, made in order to facilitate the flowing of the rain water, remain unpainted.

The rain water is channeled towards an underground cistern. The pinnacle on top of the trullo has a decorative purpose, but also acts as a keystone to locks the last layers of the roof structure in place.

The property stands in the famous Valle D'Itria: if you overlook you will see an outstanding panorama made of hundreds stone roofs in the shape of a cone.

This unit was the farmers house. It is a traditional trullo with two bedrooms. The first has a twin full size bed and a single bed. The second has two single beds.
A dining room with a single sofa bed. The bathroom is ensuite in the first bedroom and has a shower. The kitchen has separate entrance and is equipped with fridge, microwave oven, washing machine and wood oven.

This unit has been fully restored, while keeping most of the original features intact. The floor stones, the fireplace, the wooden loft, the wood oven in the kitchen, are original and make the atmosphere of this house unique.

The thick walls, entirely made of stone, and the small windows, make this house perfect in terms of thermal insulation. Even in the hottest summer days the temperature inside the house is really comfortable: most of the times you will need a light blanket on the bed.

The swimming pool, shared with the Trullo dell'Ovile, gives the opportunity of a nice fresh swim. An external shower, with hot water, is located in the pool area.

Other things to note

The house
There is no air conditioning but the trullo is built with large stone walls thus having a comfortable temperature during the summer. You will usually need a wool blanket on the bed!
This accommodation is well suited for families with children. The water is not drinkable.

The house has not been specially equipped for wheelchair users, but it is all on the ground floor. There are some single steps both outside and inside.

The trullo is located in the countryside. Other trulli are in the neighbourhood. The outside is paved with local stone. There is a garden with local plants and flowers. The swimming pool is 4 by 9 meters and is 1.5 meters deep. The access to the pool area is protected with a wood gate for the safety of your children. The swimming pool is not heated. The swimming pool area is equipped with beach umbrellas, sun beds, chairs and tables. An outside heated shower is located in the pool area. Each unit has its outside area with big umbrellas, dining table and barbecue.

Amelio's place is beautiful. It's fairly small but very comfortable for 3 people (we're friends). We stayed at the very end of the season (10-13th Oct) so the nights were very cold- jumpers, long trousers and socks a must. Amelio provided lots of blankets and a great heater so it was perfect to be able to enjoy the evenings inside. Shared pool area is lovely and we were lucky with the weather- it gets a lot of sun from early morning until 5ish and gets pretty hot. We shared with a family of 5 next door but there's lots of space and plenty of sun loungers and chairs for everyone. If you like walking you can get to Locorotondo (5km) or Alberobello (6.5km) on foot which we did to enjoy lovely restaurants with wine etc. Nearest shop is around 1-2km away. Amelio was a great host, getting to the place and check-in and check-out were very smooth and flexible. All in all, great experience and we'd go back (perhaps when it's a little warner to enjoy evenings out).

Amelio's house is an amazing architectural and cultural local experience! The house is beautiful and really well maintained and decorated. Everything is made with taste and love and that made us feel very welcome. The house was very clean and with everything we needed. Having breakfast by the swimming pool or a coffee on the terrace with the sun rise is a lovely experience. The communication with Amelio was very easy and efficient and the welcoming was great with some local treats the spoiled us straight away. We had a very relaxing time and all up to our expectations And the cats are lovely... desperate to eat at all times but very cute! Well done Amelio

We stayed here for 16 days with our kids (3yo & 5mo). And it was just beautiful. Living in this trullo was amazing. The pool was just the right thing for our youngest kid and there was plenty of space around the area. Living in a trullo is something special. Also the trullo is located beautifully between Locorotondo and Alberobello. Two beautiful small villages. You can easily get to a lot of amazong cities in Puglia like Matera, Ostuni, Poglina a mare, Martina Franca and so on. Also beaches at the Adriatic sea are very nearby and stunning as well. Amelio and Maria were super quick answering all of our wuestions. We will come back some day for sure. A little disclaimer: if you can't stand cats at all you should think twice. There are 4 cats living around the trulli and they are craving for food. So be sure to get them out of the kitchen once or twice if you can't close the door fast enough. ;) Mille grazie.

We had a wonderful stay and we would have appreciated to stay there more time to enjoy it more. The house is a typical trulli with nice decoration and with all necessary equipment. The pool is really pleasant, perfect to relax after a day of visit. The area is particularly quiet but with the advantage to be at small distance of interesting tourism sites to discover Puglia .

Absolutely stunning villa! The pictures cannot do justice- it's a lot more beautiful and magical! Really good location- close to all great places that are worth paying a visit: Polignano Mare, Ostuni, beautiful beaches nearby. Locorotondo is also quite exceptional. Amelio is a great host, excellent communication and guidance! Cannot wait to go back!

Viviamo a Roma e siamo entrambi pensionati. Abbiamo due figli e quattro nipoti. Nostra figlia è medico anestesista e lavora a Roma.
