Made simply, designed elegantly, with details of colour, light and textures - this cabin is alive with magic set in a the gardens of Eagle's Retreats hosting space.

In the series with the other cabins, the Fox is part of the dreamy story of The Little Prince - who has some of its origins around lake Atitlan - places that can be seen from this cabin.

Facilities (ask for access price) on-site include
- traditional Mayan sauna
- large workshop platform
- permaculture gardens

The space

We've used traditional building techniques of the Mayan people, called bajareque - a weaving of sticks and mud, to construct this unique cabin. Resplendescent with colours and textures - it will cocoon you in a augmented reality of what nature and art can feel like when you are surrounded by it.

Guest access

Welcome to a garden shared with others, which becomes your living room and way to connect. Kitchen, showers (cold) and bathroom are shared and located in the garden. Find other common spaces for occupying/sitting. For other spaces (like the platform space) please ask regarding access. We also run the sauna as an additional service.

Interaction with guests

I (Greg) are onsite 50% of the time. JB (property manager) handles all questions via airbnb chat channels, including your pre/post booking needs and logistics regarding arrival (JB also offers taxi service to San Marcos from anywhere in Guatemala). Gaspar (our onsite foreman - speaks Spanish only) can help with any immediate local issues if you are able to communicate with him.

Other things to note

Please note that access to the property is challenging. It requires a 10 minute uphill walk through the residential traditional Mayan village.

Pets present on property.

Beautiful rustic cottages and the closest I felt to nature and the divine during my stay in Guatemala. While the hike to get there was steep and the bathrooms and showers were a short climb uphill from the cottage, walking through the Mayan neighborhood and pristine natural environments were worth the hike. I travelled with a 15 month old baby who I carried on my back and definitely felt the physical exertion getting back and forth from the center of town. But like I said it was worth it. It was a truly unique experience and I would do it again.

When I stayed at Eagle's Retreat, it was under construction. The views are breath taking. The cabins are artistically exquisite. As Greg indicated, a guest needs to be ambulatory and relatively physically fit to stay here. Even the outhouse and kitchen are a steep uphill climb from the cabins. The platform is majestic, and feels as if it's on the edge of the sky, with condors soaring above and below. It has a very spiritual feeling. I liked listening to the chorus of dogs barking at night and the roosters crowing in the morning. It was a treat to meet other guests and volunteer artists who were working on the vision of this emerging retreat center. I'm sure that when it's finished, it will be gorgeous.
