The Cottage is just 12 minutes from downtown Asheville. If you are interested in shopping the outlets are just 10 minutes away. If you are attending a wedding at The Farm it is just around the corner. We are in a country setting, with chickens, donkeys and goats nearby.
The Cottage is above a wholesale bakery - smells divine!. Its good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers.

The space

The Cottage is an open floor plan with a private bath. You walk in the door through the covered porch to the "kitchen area." There is a sink, microwave, small refrigerator, and coffee pot along with assorted cutlery and dining ware. There is a kitchen table off to the side and a coat rack.

In the living area there is a large leather couch and an arm chair with a coffee table. A flat screen tv [with cable] is also provided. The queen bed also faces the TV but is tucked into the corner with a wall separating it on one side from the bathroom. There is a chest of drawers to store clothing and belongings.

There are abundant, large windows on every wall letting in ample natural light, but all windows also have blackout curtains. There is a heating/cooling unit on the wall, but all windows open to let in the cool mountain air.

The bathroom is fully enclosed with a large sink/vanity area, tiled walk in shower, and toilet.

Guest access

You'll have full access to the cottage and parking out front. To get to the cottage you'll walk up a short set of brick steps, through a garden and trellis area. The lawn in front of The Cottage looks out onto farmland with donkeys, goats, chickens, and rolling hills. Feel free to walk around the gardens and orchard. Not all of the animals you see are ours so please check with us before you approach them.

Interaction with guests

We live in the house adjacent to The Cottage and are available for questions and help during your stay.

Other things to note

When you drive up to the property there will be a large white dog - Sadie - who will welcome you with barks. She is behind a invisible fence and cannot get to you, but please do not approach her.

The Cottage sits above a wholesale that operates Monday - Thursday. The smells are divine and often drift up to The Cottage. The floors are thick and insulated, but keep in mind there may be muffled sounds heard during operating hours (9AM - 5PM Monday - Thursday). Sorry, none of the bake goods are available for purchase.

The cottage was perfect for two of us! It was convenient to everything we wanted to do on the western side of Asheville and was a comfy, cozy place to cool our heels after our adventures. We'll definitely be back.

This was our second stay at Joan's cottage and it was just as lovely as the first time. It was so easy to get into Asheville for the concert we came into town for, but was far enough away to feel like our own space to retreat back to. Joan's place is clean, cute, and has anything you could need for traveling through the area. I'd definitely recommend staying at her place!

Great location for a town visit. Very comfortable with everything you'd need in a great place to relax. Not made for cooking, but not advertised as such either. Great biscuits 1/4 mile away. Very well decorated with plenty of good seating and large bathroom. I'll stay here again.

Joan was a wonderful host (very friendly and responsive). The cottage itself was an extremely pleasant and comfortable space (great natural light, charming furnishings, cozy bed), and the location was very convenient. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a great stay not too far from Asheville!

Our stay at this property was fantastic - Paul and Joan (and Sadie) are gracious hosts. We attended a wedding at The Farm, and this cottage was the perfect location. We loved the view from the front porch, and thoroughly enjoyed our morning coffee outside. Excellent proximity to downtown Asheville. We only wished we could have stayed longer, and we do plan to return!

Joan's place was quaint and cozy! It was larger than expected, I wish we had more time to stay than just a night. The location is perfect, with a lovely view of the farm and animals. An adorable orange kitty named Lucky was the icing on the cake! Definitely recommend and would stay again, thank you!!
