The Tuckshop, brought to Hartley Vale by the Scouts, is a tastefully converted cabin to enjoy the valley views and wildlife.

There is a large comfortable day bed, a kitchen made from local mountain ash, vintage table and recycled hardwood deck that flows into the garden. The original Victorian boys brick outhouse has gorgeous cedar lined tin roof and old beams. It been renovated from a long drop dunny with cubicles to a real toilet with vintage sink and a shower with hot water!

Jeans place was situated in the perfect spot. Secluded and in the nature, lots of wildlife to be observed sitting on the veranda. I would definitely stay again.

Glad you had a great time here. Thanks for a lovely review! The road is dark in this remote area and currently harder to spot as lights removed for new stone entrance and timber gate. Back next week when we can reinstall the lights. Good you found us!

Jean’s Tuckshop is in a very pretty spot in Hartley Vale, and the cottage is well-appointed with a comfortable bed and a kitchen equipped for basic meals. We brought an extra heater as the Tuckshop is only equipped with one small plug-in heater. You’ll also need to go outside to …

Response from Jean:
Unfortunately Joanna experienced unusually low temperatures which froze the pipes on Sunday morning. The heavy frost gave our remote valley a stunning white winter wilderness but no water for a few hours and Joanna couldn’t get myself (on holiday in NZ) and didn’t access the other listed number for my co-host, Hayley. This of course impacted on her enjoyment of our gorgeous location. Accuracy: The key access was instructed as a key box and now updated to read combination padlock – same code and same location, not a problem previously. Amenities: warmth – there is a very efficient heater which quickly heats the tuckshop – another is under the bed which unfortunately Joanna did not access. Value: This is an adventure ‘glamping’ getaway as advertised and suitable for guests who enjoy the beautiful cliffs, bush, wildlife and remote areas. The tuckshop is an extremely well appointed converted school wooden tuckshop. Its frosty and starry in the valley at night and freezing cold in winter so you need to prepare. The De Loites heater is a saviour as are the thick comfy quilts, good cotton sheets and the hot water bottles. The new hot shower and toilet are a short 15 metre walk across the lawn to the 1878 heritage boys brick outhouse block which has been tastefully converted and retains quality pieces like the wooden ironing board and iron, the old enamel ‘potty’, the old wooden lid toilet seat on the wall and the framed prints of the early botanists watercolours of wattles and crimson rosellas.

The tuckshop is very cute and cosy, can get very cold in winter but if you just turn on the heater as soon as you arrive and close all of the curtains, you'll be fine. It was clean and the location is great for its seclusion.

Thanks for a lovely review! The entrance is dark and currently harder to spot as we are in the middle of new stone entrance and old timber gate so lighting was removed to allow this. Back next week however when we can reinstall the lights. Glad you found us!
