Juan Carlos was a great host and he was communicative throughout the booking process. He was waiting for me when I arrived at his place. As we toured the apartment he graciously offered me a Cuban Cigar; I knew I had arrived in Cuba! In my review below, I will begin with the positives and end with some of the things that one should know prior to booking. The two bedroom apartment was very big and clean. I traveled alone but the apartment could easily fit two to three people comfortably. There were no signs insects or even flies. The kitchen was small but had what you needed (I did not need to use it). The bathroom was clean and both bedrooms were freshly made with new sheets. The bathroom had toilet paper with extra rolls (very important as it’s a rarity around the city bathrooms). The armoire’s have hangers and have a decent amount of space inside. There was an air conditioner in the bedroom with the vista. The air conditioner worked fine and made the room very cool. There are two oscillating fans in the apartment; one in the room with the fridge and one in the bedroom. Juan Carlos also provided clean towels; two large towels and a few smaller towels. In the refrigerator you will find multiple bottles of spring water (extra-large and smaller bottles). Juan Carlos provides the prices on the front of the fridge for you. I just kept the empty bottles on the kitchen table and he tallied them up and I paid for what I drank. Definitely fair as I did not have to worry about walking around to find water. The location is near “El Capitolio”. The area itself is very busy and I felt safe and fine walking around during the day and at night. If you look out the apartment vista toward the right of the street there is a hotel where Yellow taxi's are stationed. That was a plus for reliable Taxi access. Some of the things to know before booking: The view was great looking out but one thing to note; the street was busy with traffic and in turn can create some noise and the strong scent of gas exhaust. The vista is made of wood and there isn’t any sort of insulation border to prevent the scent from coming in. My nose was slightly irritated from the scent of exhaust during the day but at night it dissipates. The oscillating fan helped push the air back from lingering in the room. The shower in the bathroom provided a warm shower and the water flowed well without interruption. However, as I went to change the water temperature setting on the shower head, I felt a warm vibrating shock through my right arm. I looked closer and realized it was an electric shower head. I’m not sure how this happened but I did see a portion of green and red wires without any insulation or protection around...

Juan's place is central to all things to see in La Habana. I was able to walk everywhere from the Malecon to Old Havana to Central Havana. I would highly recommend this place. The best thing about Juan's place is that he took care of all my basic needs. He greeted me at the door, checked me in, and called me a cab when it was time to leave. He had water and beer in the fridge for sale and the prices were cheap. Trust me, you'll drink a lot of water. He also left his number for me to call if I needed anything. I could call from the house phone so no need to use your cell phone. The best part of his place is that I could wake every morning to the view of El Capitolio and see the people of Cuba from my window. The picture on his page is real. I would stay at this place again in a heartbeat. Don't let the outside scare you. The Cuban people are very friendly and will say hello and guide you if you need it. The blocks on the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map may look intimidating but they are very small in size. I enjoyed the following places to eat which are very close to Juan's place: Sloppy Joe's Bar, El Floridita, and Cafe Suiza for breakfast. Other places I enjoyed were in Old Havana Square area and Cerveceria Antiguo Almacen de la Madera y El Tabaco. There are peso food stands right across the street. I could go on but if you are able to book this place then don't hesitate.

This has to be the best host on Airbnb. He was very easy to communicate with, very informative and available all the time. The place itself was pleasing. AC is a plus especially with the weather in Cuba! The view is amazing! When you open the balcony doors you are facing El Capitolio. The apartment is in old Havana and it is close to everything. My experience in cuba was amazing thanks to Juancarlos. I highly recommend this Airbnb!
