Flooded with light and charm, this cozy 100+ year old cottage, an easy train ride from Manhattan is on a quiet street that backs up to the golf course for endless backyard views. Renovated top to bottom by this Beacon native, the home is now quite modern yet retains its historic appeal. Located just a 5-10 minute walk to Main Street or the Beacon train depot, this sweet home is the perfect weekend getaway for a couple, girls' weekend or for groups attending local weddings and graduations.
Passing through the generous front porch, you enter the great room brimming with light from the 12 original windows and 2 French doors. An open plan kitchen affords views out to the golf course and oversized back deck, while separate dining and living areas offer several places to gather. The kitchen has ample storage and prep space with a large peninsula and breakfast bar, two undercounter refrigerator/freezers and a full size fridge with icemaker just steps away in the full basement. There is a Nespresso pod machine and milk frother for homemade lattes and cappucinos and the pantry is stocked with basic condiments and most typical kitchen cooking necessities. Upstairs are three cozy bedrooms tucked under the eaves of the half hip roof, furnished with brand new memory foam mattresses, crisp bedding and a mix of modern and antique furnishings. The sparkling new bathroom has a comfortable soaking tub and marble topped vanity.
There is a full size washer and dryer in the basement (please use only the products provided to avoid chemical sensitivities),
There are new heat and central AC systems (two zones; upstairs and down); the heating system is very efficient and can often be set lower than one typically might, especially upstairs.
While this is not a full time home, a few of our personal belongings are kept in the house, but there are plenty of empty drawers and other storage for guests.
There is one full bath. In addition, there is a tiny water closet off the living room. It was installed by the previous owner for personal needs and I have left it in place until we expand it into a proper powder room in the coming months. There is a battery operated touch light on the upper right wall as you face into the closet if you choose to use it.
Guests have access to all areas of the house, including the welcoming front yard, back deck furnished with a dining table and comfortable seating area, and yard.
While there is no television in the house, there is high speed wifi that can handle multiple devices streaming, so bring your iPads and laptops! There is also a Bose Bluetooth speaker for playing your music.
Interaction with guests
I will have an associate there to either let you in or we will give you information on access and alarm codes prior to your arrival. I am in ready reach by text or phone as will be my locally-based associate for anything that might come up during your stay.
Other things to note
Enjoy Beacon, the seat of the Hudson Valley and named by Architectural Digest as having one of the most beautiful main streets in America: (URL HIDDEN)
Note: The base cleaning fee is $95, but for additional guests beyond 2, it moves to $125. While the additional guest fee covers wear and tear on the house, additional guests (and towels and sheets) mean an additional hour of cleaning, primarily for the laundry, hence the higher rate.
This is a quiet residential neighborhood; limit noise after 10 pm. No parties. The kitchen is full function, but since there is no hood, please open the side windows if you cook (fry) anything that would normally require ventilation.
The house has just been fully remodeled and redecorated, so please treat the furnishings as you would your own. Please clean up after yourself as normal ( I.e. dishes); we'll do a proper housecleaning after each guest. While this is not a shoe-free listing per se, during wet or messy weather, please avail yourselves of the boot tray just inside the front door.
Children may be allowed with appropriate supervision. In many ways this is a lovely family house, but the house is not super kid friendly due to narrow stairs and open staircase to the basement, along with light colored fabrics and finishes. Check with me if you are planning a trip with children, as I am flexible.
Born and raised in Beacon, I'm now an LA-based interior designer whose hankering for my beloved Hudson Valley prompted me and my husband to buy a second home that offers both the nostalgia of a small hometown and easy access to Manhattan. We hope to host people as charmed by this wonderful river valley as we are. It was a wonderful place to grow up, and a pleasure to visit.
