A unique experience! living in a 'grange' is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. HIGHLY recommended to all, let you city-dweller ideas back at home and dive in for a great time!

Ideal except for the water which was a MAJOR issue for us. Like all the previous reviewers, we could not get over how gracious the hosts are and how lovely the accommodations are. That's the reason for the 4 stars instead of 2. The hosts really were THAT amazing! Unfortunately, the water to the house has a high sulfur content so smells and tastes like rotten eggs. We found the smell overwhelming and the inconvenience of having to use bottled water (for drinking, brushing teeth etc) with three little kids detracted from our ability to enjoy our vacation. We had a number of visitors during the two weeks we stayed here and they all agreed that the water situation was a deal breaker and wouldn't return. This is not a problem endemic to the island - we spoke to many locals who had no issues with sulfur in their water. It's unfortunate as everything else about this place is ideal and the hosts are so incredibly amazing. It's just one of those unfortunate things though (like living next to a landfill) that can't be fixed. If we hadn't booked the kids for camp on the island the second week, I would have forgone the money we spent on the accommodation and just flown home sooner. I think if you plan to stay only a few days and eat out often (to minimize use of water in the kitchen as the smell while then trying to eat is unappealing) then you'll probably not notice the water issue so much (although remove your silver jewelry as the water will tarnish it significantly within 2 days). With a family of five and guests, however, we were constantly doing dishes, laundry, and had people using the shower etc so the smell was remarkable. If I had been forewarned about the water and had chosen to come anyway, I would have felt better about it but to discover it once we had already arrived was disappointing. Perhaps if the price had been lower (at the time I booked, it was the most expensive rental on the island) or the island was Hawaii quality so that it didn't matter what my house was like, I would have been better able to tolerate such a surprise.

The sweet barn was beautiful and the island is amazing and full of fun. The sweet barn is a great place for a large group, lots of space and a big table to eat meals around. What better way to take in the history of Quebec than to stay in a charming old barn! The jam factory is also fantastic. The jams are delicious and the experience is so unique. Our family had a great time!

This is a lovingly restored barn, with thoughtful details and touches. Catherine and Vincent are also wonderful hosts, who are responsive and charming. Also, it wasn't clear from the photos, but there are actually two very large common rooms (the main room and the game room), with the game room having a tv that those who are interested can watch. The only things I would note is that the second bathroom doesn't have a shower or bath (so only one shower in the place), and that drinking water does need to be brought in. That said, this place + the island air kept us happy for a full week. Finally, it must be said -- the jam shop is downstairs and very well done, with serious attention to the product and atmosphere (it's not just a souvenir shop).

Catherine and Vincent's Sweet Barn was a perfect place from which to experience Quebec. The peaceful rural setting was a nice contrast to the beautiful city of Quebec, just a short 25 or so minutes away. We experienced the best of both worlds. Catherine and Vincent couldn't have been nicer, more gracious and generous with their help. Our grandkids loved watching the chickens in the morning; the older folks enjoyed relaxing around the fire pit and savoring the evening sunset. The barn-turned-residence was spacious, comfortable and very convenient. We would not hesitate to go back to do all over again.

What a great Christmas we had! Everything was perfect for our family of 12: everything was nicely decorated, the kitchen was well-equipped, the beds comfortable, the playroom amazing for the little ones. And the view! Thanks for making our Christmas great...
