The guesthouse, and our own house, are located within our 3-acre farm in Nostimo, a small village in the mountainous area of central Greece. It stands at 950 m altitude, surrounded by fir-covered mountains which offer spectacular views. The farm is arranged in terraces on sloping ground and includes vegetable gardens, fields, fruit trees and a small pond.
The guesthouse is ideal for couples who wish to spend some quiet time close to nature, see a working farm and explore the countryside.
The guesthouse is built in stone and arranged on two levels, joined by an internal staircase. Downstairs there is a small sitting area with a couch that may also be used as a bed, a kitchenette (sink, two gas rings, kettle, no oven) and a WC/shower. Upstairs there is a double bed, a single floor mattress, a wardrobe and a bureau. There is no dishwasher or washing machine but we can take care of any laundry needs of our guests. A wood stove keeps the space warm and cozy. Although there are four beds, the space is probably too small for four adults.
Guests have free access to the patio and garden as well as the whole farm. However the area is not safe for unattended small children. Brave souls may also try a dip in our pond.
Interaction with guests
Our own house is right next to the guesthouse and we are always available for any assistance or information. On the other hand, the guesthouse is completely autonomous and our guests can keep their privacy if they so wish. However, we enjoy meeting people from around the world, sharing meals and getting to know each other's cultures. Farm work permitting, we are also willing to show our guests around the area.
Other things to note
Our farm is off-grid, with its power supply provided by a photovoltaic system. There is no air-conditioning. Internet access is possible through Wifi (outdoors only) and through mobile phone service providers.
The weather in summer is generally sunny with warm – sometimes even hot – days and cool nights. Temperatures may range from 15 to 35oC within a single day. In winter there is quite a lot of rain and occasional snow with temperatures generally around 5 oC but sometimes dropping well below freezing.
- No loud noises or listening to/playing loud music.
- No shoes in the house
- No high electrical consumers (off-grid)
We are Stefanos and Io.
Born and raised in Athens, at some point, around 2006, we realized that we were following the wrong path. It was the path of alienation from mother Nature, of the poisoning of our bodies by industrially produced food and of our souls by the constant competition with our fellow human beings, the path of our complete dependence on money, of life by avoiding responsibility.
So we decided to abandon this dead-end path and change our lifestyle. We organized our escape and, in 2011, we bid goodbye to our jobs and Athens and moved to mountainous Evrytania in central Greece, creating a small family farm which we named “Nostimon Imar”. These Homeric words translate as “the Day of Return”. We chose this name because our relocation here signifies our return to real human values and to an ethical way of life.
