House, 5 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, (Sleeps 10)
Enjoy your very own piece of New England history at this five-bedroom York home, a dog-friendly, oceanfront landmark with a gorgeous wrap-around porch and a wonderful location a few blocks from the beach.
Built in 1877, this three-level Victorian cottage is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was once owned by the late New Hampshire Governor Charles Henry Sawyer. It sits less than 100 feet from the ocean on the northern shores of Cape Neddick, half a mile from Short Sands Beach, less than one mile from the Nubble Light, and one mile from Long Sands Beach.
The living space is eclectic and charming, with hardwood floors, several sofas, WiFi throughout, and large windows that face the ocean. The fireplace is purely decorative, but you'll have a selection of board games, a flatscreen cable TV, a DVD player, and a library of movies to keep your guests entertained.
Wake up to the aroma of fresh espresso in the country kitchen, which features a gas stove, other necessary appliances, and a four-person table. You'll also have both gas and charcoal grills, as well as a formal dining space with seating for four.
Begin each day on the wrap-around porch, where you can read the newspaper in the hammock and enjoy the ocean air with your dogs (please be advised that a two-dog limit and a nightly fee apply). You can also grab the provided boogie board, surfboard, and beach chairs to spend the day at Short Sands Beach.
This five-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bathroom home will sleep as many as 10 people. There are two king bedrooms, as well as three bedrooms that offer a total of three full-size beds and two twins (the loft, however, is not to be used for sleeping). You'll also find a clawfoot tub and a shower in the full bathroom and a refreshing outdoor shower in the yard.
If you're in search of the quintessential New England summer getaway, look no further than the scenic shores of York. A haven for families, beach-goers, and lovers of the Maine Coast, this home is a short walk from shops, restaurants, beaches, and the many amusements of York's Wild Kingdom. You'll also be eight miles south of Ogunquit Beach and 18 miles from charming Kennebunkport.
