River Run Cabin is "unplugged" freeing you to tune in to the river’s social network! - - dragonflies circling at noon, beavers at dusk, a heron fishing at daybreak.
Absolutely No Electricity + No Plumbing, but this charming cabin meets your needs from breakfast to bedtime.
It’s a special little property just off the Haliburton County Rail Trail, part of the Toronto to Algonquin Greenway. Bring your kayak and/or fatbike.
This is a summer-only rental - inquire now for 2018.
The kitchen has all dishes, utensils, pots and pans. Cooking here takes you back to simpler times. Instead of a fridge, there is a cooler. Bring a bag of ice! There's a perfectly functional campstove, but experiment with cooking on the outdoor fireplace. Potatoes and corn-on-the-cob can be baking in the coals while your steak or veggie burgers are grilling on top. Enjoy your feast at the solid cedar picnic table at the river's edge.
Instead of a conventional washroom, there is a classic outhouse! Bathing is accommodated with a jug and wash basin in a private closet in the cabin. There's a public swimming hole just down the road. (the river in front of cabin is too shallow for swimming)
There is no heating source inside. You can warm up by the campfire outside. Cozy comforters and blankets are provided. Two bedrooms are off the living room with curtains for doors. The table inside the cabin is ideal for games. There are many places to hang out around the property. The screened porch is heavenly. The hammock is comfy. A campfire pit is wide open to the night sky. There are a few other special places to sit and watch the river run.
You will have the whole property to yourselves. It’s about an acre but seems larger because there are so many different nooks, hideaways and lookouts. It feels very private. Access is down a long lane that's a right-of-way across an old farm.
Interaction with guests
We will welcome you and provide an orientation. Since there's no Wi-Fi or cell signal at the cabin, we'll make arrangements in case you need to reach us.
Other things to note
If you're an experienced camper, this will seem like the Ritz. You don't need to bring any gear. If you've never been without electricity or plumbing, we're happy to discuss your specific concerns.
Please keep River Run Cabin pleasant and safe by observing the following: No candles and no smoking anywhere on the property. Refrain from using any scented products inside; step outside to spray insect repellant. Sound carries across the water to our neighbours, so no recorded music outside. (strumming guitar at the campfire OK) Keep voices at a reasonable level. There are all kinds of critters interested in your food. Clean up promptly after meals. Put all foodstuffs and refuse in sealed containers to deter mice, ants, raccoons etc. Follow posted instructions for campstove. Thank you!
