For the truly off grid experience, The Hermitage is at the bottom of the fields, by the pond. It accommodates up to 2 people overnight (one sofa-bed) and has an outside compost toilet. It has a wood burning stove. There is no running water or electricity. A degree of fitness is required to negotiate the fields and woods to reach The Hermitage.
This is a glamping paradise or a true escape from the world. It is one room in the most exceptional location. It has a daybed, a desk and chair, with a rocking chair in front of the fire and that is it. There is a compost loo next door.
From the stables where parking is available, there is a walk down to The Hermitage through fields past our Labyrinth, following the stream down through the woods to the pond. Its a bit steep and can be slippery under foot. Not for the faint-hearted nor sadly anyone who requires a wheelchair or walker.
Interaction with guests
We live at the Barn and our housekeeper Jane will be available during your stay. Retreat services are offered and can be arranged at additional cost in consultation with us.
Other things to note
It is quite hilly. The beach is about a ten min walk down the hill but takes around 30 mins to get back up. It takes us about 35-40 minutes to walk into Looe, a bit longer to Polperro. The closest pub is a mile away but it is a 35 min walk along the lanes and a long journey back.
Weather: Cornish weather is unpredictable – it is suggested that you bring all weather gear and layers.
Proximity to civilisation: We are about one mile down and uphill to the closest shop. There are none within easy walking distance so if you are self-catering you may wish to shop before you arrive/on the way or arrange for a food delivery to The Barn for the day of your arrival.
Towels and Bedding are provided
As we are running Treargel as a retreat, it will more suit those who need some space and time out rather than anyone wishing for a wild time!
Artie, my husband, and I moved to Looe from Melbourne in 2015. Our vision for Treargel Retreats is to provide a place of retreat for those in full or part time Christian ministry, and more generally for those who care for others, with little time or resource to take time out for themselves. Treargel is open to those of all faiths and none.
