A private room in an elegant historic Captain's house. 2 blocks from downtown, the ferry, town pier and beach, restaurants, and public transportation to the rest of the island. An expansive garden, patio, and outdoor dining make this property a refuge in the heart of Vineyard Haven. Use our bikes to explore the island, or enjoy the short walk to town beaches and fine dining.

The space

This historic house was built in 1905 by Captain George Eldridge who in 1875 first published the famous tide schedules still used by sailors today. On Main St, a short walk from the downtown, “Fairtide” sits on a double lot with expansive lawn and gardens. The room is entered from the front foyer and has an attached bathroom. 1 double bed and one twin bed, side table, bureau, and closet. Outdoor shower, or shared upstairs shower.

Guest access

The room adjoins a spacious living room (photo listed) which I don't use. Guests have access to the entire ground floor and upstairs bathroom for the shower. The shared kitchen is available as well as the dining room and outdoor dining on the patio and a spacious yard. Wifi, TV, shared fridge, bikes to use, garden with swings and benches.

Interaction with guests

I live upstairs and am happy to help you with your stay in any way that I can. I am easy going and also quite happy to respect your privacy.

Other things to note

I have a gallery of my stone carvings behind the garage which you are welcome to visit. We have bikes available for use. On site parking is available if you bring your car.

Awesome super host. Adrian and Sweta were amazingly welcoming and attentive to any needs or questions. Lovely historic home and garden that is well kept. The outdoor shower was awesome. Also the perks of having bike access was a major plus. Staying here gives a true Martha's Vineyard experience compared to what other friends of mine had staying at a hotel. So happy we chose here instead!

Adrian was a fantastic host with a lovely home. The neighborhood is quiet and a $12-$15 Uber ride to Oak Bluffs which is a bit more lively. We highly recommend this Airbnb!!

Adrian's hospitality was unrivaled and the Captain's house was so incredibly comfortable. My friend Tim and I stayed here on a Saturday night in June. Adrian was kind enough to let us borrow bikes, and we used them to ride all around the island. I would highly recommend the private room at Adrian's place if you are planning a weekend trip to the Vineyard :)

We booked a last minute stay here as I was visiting my daughter my daughter at college in Boston and we wanted a weekend away. It couldn't have been better. The house was lovely & comfortable Adrian was the perfect host. Nothing was too much trouble from lending us bikes & pumping up the tyres to recommending where to go & what to do. We had the most wonderful weekend rounded off with blueberry pancakes at The Black Dog Tavern overlooking the harbour. We didn't want to leave!

I grew up spending my summers on Martha's Vineyard and now split my time between the island and Nepal, opening my family home here while enjoying the island as an artist. I'm a stone carver and have a gallery on the property. In Nepal I work with American students on semester study abroad programs as well as in humanitarian work. It is a pleasure to be able to share this beautiful and spacious house with guests. I enjoy spending time in the garden and maintaining the property as well as exploring the beauty of this island. I live upstairs and am respectful of your privacy, but also happy to share what I can to ensure you see the best of what the island has to offer.

I look forward to meeting you!
