Leave the world behind in this one roomed cottage nestled in 5 hectares of native bush among park like grounds bordering on Kahurangi National Park. Relax to the sound of birdsong, bask in the sun on the private deck, soak up the peace and tranquilty. Golden Bay is an outdoor adventure playground surrounded by two National Parks with outstanding beaches, caves, native rain forest and mountains.

The space

This one-roomed cabin has a double bed and private sunny deck in a peaceful and tranquil setting amongst harekeke, kanuka and nikau bush with an outlook onto Kahurangi National Park. There is an outdoor wood-fired bbq area with deck chairs and outdoor seating, a double gas hob and utensils you can request and a communal fridge/freezer, but there is no kitchen access. Continental breakfast (muesli, yoghurt, fruit, toast, jam) and hot drinks are provided in your room. Your room comes equipped with a toaster, tea and coffee making facilities. It is a short walk to the shared bathroom. There is no public transport in Golden Bay so you need your own car, parking onsite. This 3 hectare property has been a private family home for the last 40 years and is a quirky home to a writer and an artist. It features a QE2 covenanted swamp with board walk and loop track, with extensive gardens taking up much of the rest. Situated eight kilometres before Collingwood on the main Takaka – Collingwood Highway and 1.6km past the Mussel Inn, it is centrally located to explore all that Golden Bay has to offer from Farewell Spit and the wild West Coast beaches to the Abel Tasman National Park in the east.

Guest access

The shared toilet and shower is in the house a short walk away. There is unlimited wifi. There is a wood fired bbq area with a communal refrigerator/freezer, and also a double gas hob with utensils you can use. There are tea and coffee making facilities in your room. A continental breakfast is provided and we can provide a packed lunch and evening meal fresh from our organic garden for an additional charge. Melanie and Gerard have a beautiful property, with two lovely little cabins. The bush walks on their property where very nice and the "bringing the outdoors in" bathroom was amazing. The location was good and not too far from Takaka, Collingwood and Farewell Spit. We really enjoyed our stay, thanks Melanie and Gerard.

Melanie, Gerard and their place sum up what makes Air B'n'b so special. The clean, cosy bach we stayed in was nestled in nature and bird life and a great place to explore Golden Bay from. A lovely breakfast was provided everyday via a little cool box. Only regrets were not booking another night.
