About this listing

Set in the servants' quarters in the rear of a Victorian townhome, this room features antique furnishings and a full bath with a clawfoot tub. The room exits to an exterior courtyard, not inside the home. The French made bed dates from the Civil War.

The space

This room is located in the servants' quarters of a Victorian townhome designed by a prominent New Orleans architect and built in 1870. It is furnished in antiques and offers a unique degree of privacy given that it opens to a courtyard. Hotel-like amenities are provided.

Guest access

This is a private space. The room opens to an exterior second floor walkway, and ingress and egress is through a rear stairwell that exists into a secure courtyard.

Interaction with guests

I live and work on the property, so I am normally around and available to deal with guest concerns. I encourage guests to contact me if they are dissatisfied with anything; I will always try to make it better.

Other things to note

Wireless internet is offered as an amenity. However, guests should be aware that performance may be spotty given the distance from the router. There is a wireless extender, but I cannot guarantee its performance with all devices and at all times.

Very easy to get to and from the train station. Comfortable and clean accommodations.

I really enjoyed my stay at Owen's! This was my first Airbnb stay and I hope the rest are just as nice. To make sure I cover all the bases, I would like to break down my review into parts. The host: Owen was very communicative prior to check in and also checked in with me via text after my first full day there. I'm not generally a needy guest, but he definitely made it clear that I need not hesitate to ask if I needed anything. He's pleasant and easygoing and made me feel very comfortable in his home. The accommodations: This is authentic New Orleans flavor with hotel like convenience. It's very charming and for me totally beats the standard generic hotel room. Just getting into the room itself is a maze through this beautiful historic home. There are about 27 stairs that could be difficult to manage for some with heavy luggage. However, I am a middle aged out of shape woman and I got all my stuff up with leashed dog in hand. The room is well appointed with antique furnishings and a few modern conveniences. A claw foot tub and pedestal sink adorn the private bath. The main room has a bed, armoire, dresser, chair, chest and rack for your luggage. There is also a mini fridge, coffee maker, and microwave for convenience. When I arrived, the room was pre-cooled with a cold soda in the fridge. Other items provided included coffee, creamer, plastic utensils, styrofoam cups, sweetener/sugar, a couple of small snacks, bath/hand/face towels, small shampoos/conditioners, bar soap, hand soap, paper towels and iron and ironing board. The air conditioning unit is small but works like a champ. The most thoughtful touch that I really appreciated was the water bowl he provided for my dog. The neighborhood: The Garden District home is short walking distance to Magazine Street shops and cafes. I was only there a couple of days so there is probably much more that I didn't get to. The streets are lined with beautiful historic homes in various stages of renovation. It's fascinating to see the lengths that some of the owners have gone to to save these historic treasures. Some of the cafes have outdoor seating and provide service to the outdoor tables. This is key if you are traveling with a dog. In my several trips around the block with my dog, I always felt safe. Neighbors a couple of doors down even stopped and chatted with me about my dog. I didn't use the public transportation so I didn't look for it. Parking is curbside and not terribly difficult to find on the block if you have decent parallel parking skills. I won't hesitate to stay there again if I return to New Orleans.

It's was nice room! It takes 5 minutes to get streetcar . The streetcar go to downtown by 15~20 minutes. Also there is 24hour cafe close to house! But wifi is not strong

Everything is exactly as described. The place is small and doesn't have anything fancy, but it's comfortable and has everything you need. Keep in mind that, as mentioned, the WiFi signal isn't very strong. I ended up tethering to my phone. Also, it might be a good idea to bring a power strip if you have a bunch of devices -- a lot of the outlets are taken up by lights and such.

Owen is a charming and knowledgeable host with insight into the local area. He was quick to help with any questions about the room, and the house was close to a lot of great cafes and bars to try out.
