About this listing
Are you ready for a vacation in the tranquility of the beautiful and unspoilt countryside of Norway? Looking for sporting challenges in the mountains, in and on the water, or in winter in a snow sure environment, with ski touring on or off the beaten path? Or are you looking for a place where you can unwind, equipped with every possible comfort, with all the beneficial features that you can wish? Or possibly looking for a place to discover Norway, land of dramatic scenery, clear water, fresh air, space, silence and relaxed people?
Then please feel welcome in our norwegian cottage StoreVenn, completed in 2010, a traditional wooden house, fully designed and equipped for 6 persons. With a spacious living room, a partially open kitchen, large partially covered porch, 3 bedrooms, bathroom and sauna, you can find all the conveniences for a wonderful holiday.
The house is situated on a peninsula (Storodde) in the beautiful Vråvatn lake, in the sunny province of Telemark in southern Norway. In summer you can hike, play golf, ride horse, swim, fish, canoe or sail. In winter there are in the immediate vicinity numerous winter sports: skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, or just go with a sleigh. On our own site you pick blueberries, cranberries and raspberries. Elk, deer, badgers, foxes and other wildlife at sunset bring regular visits to your terrace and if you like you can go on beaver or moose safari. During the day, enjoy a good book on the sunny porch and in the evening look in the flames of the fire inside or outside. In short, holiday at its best, in every season of the year!

•The key can be found in the locker on the covered porch. If you enter the porch through the little gate, look directly to your right. Open the lid, enter the code you have received by phone, mail or by text message, and squeeze the buttons on the side to open the locker. Inside you will find the key to the front door of the house. Please afterwards set the code back to '0000 'again and close the locker.
•After Norwegian custom we like to keep the house free of shoes (it protects the wooden floor!). Please take off your shoes when entering the hall with the underfloor heating. If desired, you can use the slippers hanging next to the front door.
•All exterior doors are equipped with 3-point locks. To open, push the handle upward, then turn the key a quarter turn, and the lock will open.
•The main valve for water is in the technical room (utility room), directly opposite the front door. It is located on your rights hand side, upon entering the room.
Red handle vertical = open
Red handle horizontal = closed
It is very important to again close the valve upon departure!!!
Please turn the red handle back to the horizontal position, perpendicular to the waterpipe.
•The plug of the boiler in the technical room has to be plugged in the electrical socket. It is located in the left rear corner, just behind the boiler. After a few hours, there is hot water.
•The refrigerator in the kitchen is connected to the freezer. The cooling starts by turning the knob in the refrigerator.
•There is underfloor heating in the hall, bathroom, utility room and toilet upstairs. They are normally set at 20-25 ° C. In case you want extra heating, then open the little white hatch, and press the buttons with the arrows to set a new temperature.
Upon departure please set everything back to 25 ° C. This is (in wintertime) very important to prevent pipes from freezing.
•The standard electric radiators in all other rooms are set at 15 ° C. These can obviously be turned up to your desire, but again please put them back at 15 ° C upon departure.
From the Netherlands we have no control over how our guests leave the house behind (there is no end cleaning by someone else). Therefore we trust you in your own responsibility and care, to make sure StoreVenn is clean and safe upon your departure. Previous guests have done the same for you!
In periods of vacancy, spiders, flies and even mice may also have done their work. It therefore may be necessary that you just take the vacuum cleaner or a cloth in hand upon arrival.
•Damage and defects
Of course there is always the possibility that you break something or something shows a defect. This is usually not a problem (and we have sufficient cutlery to replace broken items). However, we would appreciate it very much if you would inform us, so we can ensure that damage is repaired, dishes supplemented or replaced (eg lightbulbs).
If you yourself are willing to make all this in order then please do. Any costs you would make would of course be reimbursed by us!
•There is a fire extinguisher in the technical room (utility room).
•When using the washing machine in the utility room first turn on the tap. Please also shut it again, after use.
The drum is not very large. It takes only 2 sets of bedsheets. The water is very soft (very little lime), so it doesn’t require much soap. Too much soap remains suspended in the laundry. Normally the "Daily" (1 hour) programme is sufficient. For small loads the "quick wash" (15 min) comes in handy. Drying possibilities are: the rack in the stairwell, the sauna and the extra drying racks in the technical room (be careful not to hang anything on the electrical radiators!). Outside the front door there is also a line upon which you can hang things. In addition to this, you can yourself hang a line on the covered porch or between trees just outside the house. Clotheslines can be found in the closet in the hallway.
•When any sewer smell: pour some salad oil in the well of the utility room
•When using the fireplace, please always use dry wood (to prevent soot).
Bedlinnen is in the box under the stairs and/or in the cupboard in the master bedroom upstairs.
There are two sets of sheets for the double bed: colour aubergine / purple and army green. The red and blue fitted sheets are for the single beds. There is one for each bed and an ordinary cotton flannel duvet cover available.
There are six quilts, each consisting of a summer and an autumn part, together with snaps, they form the winter duvet. It is always a bit puzzling….
Towels and tea towels are in the closet in the hallway.
You are welcome to make use of everything, however, it would be desirable if you put it back before leaving again (washed and dried). For shorter stays it may be best to bring your own (bed)linnen.
•For (young) children we have 2 flannel mattress protectors.
•The porch doors close by the 3-point locks: first lift the handle, then unlock the door.
De balcony door for the master bedroom can be blocked at a small opening:
When lifting the handle upwards, the door opens completely
When pushing the handle downwards, the door should only open partly
•In the bookcase there is a small tray with:
The gray key to the outside watertap
An extra key to the front door
•The attick above the bathroom is for private use only
•There is a guestbook (under the table in the living room). We would certainly appreciate it if you would write something in it.
•In the technical room / uitilty room:
oClose the main watertap: handle horizontal, perpendicular to the waterpipe !!!!
oPull the plug form the boiler !!!!
oClose the tap for the washing machine (if used)
•In the kitchen: turn off the refrigerator + open the door a bit
•Underfloor heating: please set them all at 25°C (toilet upstairs, bathroom, uitilty room and hall)
•Set all electrical radiators at 15°C: bedrooms upstairs, living room and kitchen
•Please lock: windows upstairs – balcony upstairs – windows downstairs – porch doors
•Please turn off all lights and shut the curtains on the front side of the house (kitchen; because of sunlight)
•Close watertap outside
•Return keys for watertap and additional housekey to the small tray in the bookcase
•Front door: lift the handle, and turn the key to lock the house
•Return the key to the key locker on the porch. Please return the small dials to ‘0000’.
•Garbage can be left in the gray container, next to the entrance road to the peninsula (near the ‘dam’).
