I have created a private living space in the attic of my own home to serve as a plain and simple, clean and cosy bed sitting room for those who wish or need to visit Wells for any number of reasons and who may like to work, play, study or relax (as well as just sleep) in peace, privacy and comfort. Ali’s Attic has a light, quiet, airy feel - and a view of the Cathedral over the rooftops.
Your space: The attic furniture is flexible and moveable, as you will see from the photos, and can sleep one or two people with new good quality beds adjoining or separate. The sofa and comfy chair provide for lounging and the upright chairs and drop leaf table-trolley allow for eating, laptops, hobbies, card/board games or just spreading out stuff. Ali’s Attic has Wi-Fi, lots of sockets to plug-in/recharge, DAB radio, electric fan/heater and tea/coffee/kettle. Next to this second story attic room guests have their own (small but private) toilet/wash room.
The house: Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac with off-road parking the 1950s three bed semi had its loft converted in 2006 and new double glazing installed in 2017. As well as exclusive use of the attic room and washroom, guests may use the main bath/shower room on the first floor which is shared with the host. The attic ante-room at the foot of the attic stairs has a working surface and chairs. A TV, hair dryer, and iron/ironing board can be made available here on request. Guests may park on my driveway.
Interaction with guests
Interaction with guests: I hope you will have everything you need in your own private space aloft but that you will also feel free to ask for any help or advice I may be able to give of a practical or local nature. I shall be around and at home for most of your stay and, whilst keen to meet you, will also be mindful of your privacy. You may meet my partner or family and friends who happen to visit while you are here.
Other things to note
Prices: One guest £35, second guest in same attic room £15. Please note that breakfast is not included in these prices but you are welcome to bring your own bread/cereal/drink etc for which I can make space in my fridge/kitchen and provide crockery and cutlery.
Check in and out times: I prefer check in to be between 5 and 8pm and check out before 10am but can usually be flexible in that I don’t go out to work. Please tell me between what hours you hope to arrive and leave so that we can come to a prior arrangement that suits us both.
Suitability, safety and security: The loft conversion complies with Building Regulations and I carry out my own Fire Safety Risk Assessment for the benefit of myself and my guests. In the light of this would you please note before you book that the attic space itself has sloping ceilings and being on the second floor requires guests to climb two flights of stairs so will not be suitable or ideal for all individuals. Please consider the mobility, sight and hearing of you and your companion, and view the house rules below, before booking. Your attic room can be locked when you leave the house.
House rules: No children (0-12years), pets, smoking, cooking, candles or other naked flames, drugs, excessive alcohol consumption or noise, and no noise at all please between 11pm and 8am. If you wish to eat in your room please ask to use my crockery and cutlery and return it to the kitchen for washing, together with any food and packaging waste for disposal. Otherwise please understand that this is my home and treat its contents, myself and my own visitors and neighbours with the respect you would want for yourselves in your home. Please do not invite anyone else into my home without my express permission.
I have lived in Wells for 17 years now and grew up not far away so am a loyal devotee of my beloved Mendip Hills and Somerset. My partner and I both love birds, boats, books, music, history, gardens, wildlife and walks.
