We have been renting this house for over 100 years. This party left the house very poorly, dirty with a damaged porch rocking chair. Although I advised the first person who checked in that we expected the house to be left as it was found, that didn't seem to get communicated clearly. I have updated our listing in writing to make this clear. When we rent directly, it is clear on a lease - here it was evidently not clear. We don't take a cleaning deposit for the very reason that we give tenants the choice to either clean the house themselves, hire a company directly or let us hire cleaners. As we are in a resort town, the cleaning companies charge a premium during the summer season. This is why we give guests/tenants the choice which they prefer. According to family members as well as 4 people who cleaned after this party left, the house was left very poorly and required many hours to put it back as guests would expect upon arrival. We hope this is now clearly expressed so that this situation is not repeated for both our guests and the host.
