Something different.

This loft sits above Exchange (XCHC), a project that was born out of the 2011 earthquake and was designed to connect people with the cities creative side and community.
• Heritage building
• Close to the central city
• 20 on-site artist studios
• Private entry, room, laundry, ensuite, parking
• Downstairs venue hosts local shows and events
• Social & eclectic cafe/gallery that is a popular hangout
• Sometimes we come up to bake, but we're only as social as you'd like :)

The space
The bedroom is private, with a comfortable queen bed and an additional single-size cot available on request. Full en-suite bathroom.

The upstairs lounge area has plenty of natural light and includes a corner workspace. The kitchen has everything you might need, top shelves of fridge are yours or help yourself to whats there, but because it is shared with the cafe, cooking items etc might end downstairs, so just ask if you need anything :) The space is in an industrial area so you may hear traffic, or events downstairs in the evening (until 10pm at the latest)

XCHC is a project designed after the earthquakes to support creative people and ideas in the city. By staying here, you’re investing in our arts community and providing opportunities for new creative projects in our arts space downstairs.
We want visitors to be able to easily find creative experiences so they get the most out of our unique city so we host regular exhibitions workshops and events, as well as feature local foods, pop-up kitchens, guest chefs whenever possible.

The cafe manager Pedro (amazing barista/vegan chef/baker/marathon runner/bassist) pops in weekdays to bake and will make sure the loft smells amazing :)

Guest access
The entrance and lockbox is on the RIGHT side of the building in the alleyway.

I suggest parking in front of the building to unload your bags. Assigned parking is behind the building (driveway along the left) and is labeled "376 Unit 1". The lockbox & key is next to the door on the opposite side of the building (right side) in the alleyway.

Guests have full use of the apartment, please note that it is upstairs and has a private entrance separate from the gallery/cafe venue below. There is no access to the downstairs gallery and cafe once it is closed for the night.

The bedroom and bathroom are private, but the kitchen is used by the downstairs cafe for some baking in the morning and early afternoon and we may need to wash some hand towels in the laundry.

Other things to note
There is street parking (although hard to get during the day). We have one private parking spot behind the building.
When checking out, feel free to leave the keys with the cafe or back in the lockbox.

Location

Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand

The heart of the CBD is within 30 minutes walking distance.

We’re in between the suburbs of Sydenham and Woolston.  Sydenham is a short walk to the west and features smaller galleries as well as The Colombo Mall for shopping and entertainment.  To the east, Woolston is the home of craft beer breweries (3 Boys Brewery & Twisted Hop), and The Tannery - a Victorian arcade with shops, live music, an arts cinema, and yoga studio.

Buses to the beach suburb of Sumner or the port town of Lyttelton leave every 15 minutes and take only a half hour.

Hi everyone, thanks for investigating my listing/profile. I'm a passionate traveler from the US, but have settled into the beautiful land of New Zealand. I chose Christchurch as a city to plant myself because of the opportunities of post-disaster work, especially on social impact and emerging arts initiatives. Southern hospitality is in my blood and I love connecting with others, creating experiences with them. I love art, good food, wine, and good company; I seem to share a contagious excitement about life. My biggest joy is a cultural enterprise I run that hosts creative events, art studios, and a cafe/bar that invests in community arts projects. These spaces are what make cities highly attractive to live and visit, so I also work with the local council and tourism on planning and strategy. The apartment that is listed is part of this purpose-driven business called "Exchange" and is a great place to connect. We encourage people who stay to connect with us locals and enjoy something a little different than your usual accommodation experience :)
