Our comfortable house is perfect for families or a few couples who want a quiet and clean place to stay, minutes to both Downtown Charleston and several beaches. A minute or two walk away you will find all of the essentials - a grocery store, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, a brewery, and even a pet store. Byrnes Downs is a quaint historic neighborhood great for morning or evening strolls. Our house has everything you need to enjoy a nice getaway in the Lowcountry while you feel right at home.

The space

Everything in our house is on one level. Each bedroom has a closet and is nicely appointed. We are at the house frequently so we have it set up the way we like it, with comfortable furniture and decor that reflects our style. Kids and dogs are a big part of our life so the house is great for families with little ones and well-behaved fur-children (one dog only please - email for exceptions). Fancy a drink? We provide an honor system bar for our guests - particularly handy for late arrivals or stressful travel days. The backyard is fenced in and has a nice patio with a table and a charcoal grill - perfect for enjoying fresh local seafood. We have a Nest Thermostat and Fire/Carbon Monoxide detector to make sure you are safe and comfortable. If you need to wash clothes, please use our washer, dryer and supplies! Please note that the king bedroom adjoins the twin bedroom, so those rooms are best suited for families or close friends. Our L-shaped couch comfortably sleeps two, while a queen, king and two twin beds make up the rest of the sleeping options.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire property.

Interaction with guests

We will be out of your way, but we will always make ourselves available should you need anything at all.

Other things to note

While we certainly want you to enjoy yourself at our house, out of respect for our neighbors we don't recommend renting if you plan to throw loud parties. The yard is fenced in but dogs that may have been Houdini in a previous life could potentially squeeze through slats, so let them roam at your risk. We supply a charcoal grill and chimney but please bring your own charcoal. While the house is child-friendly we wouldn't consider it child-proof, so as always, keep an eye on your kiddos. We have Apple TV with a Sling account for premium channels, and an HD antenna for local channels. We use a french press coffee maker and will have supplies for you.

Came to Charleston for a wedding, and Neale's place was perfect. Close to downtown made for easy Uber trips, and the house was well equipped to accommodate all of us before and after the different weekend activities. The house is comfortable, and Neale was really quick with confirmation and communication. Should I be back in Charleston, I'd certainly stay here again. It's not a luxurious fancy hotel, but it is a well kept and stylish home with everything you'd need to make your trip fun.

The house and the neighborhood were very cute and comfortable. I especially liked the linens and towels. Most Airbnb's I've stayed in offer flimsy mismatched towels. It was easy to drive our rental car to various destinations downtown and elsewhere, and the nearby Harris Teeter was very convenient. Thank you, hosts, for allowing us to borrow your home.

House was cute, clean, well furnished, and located just a couple of miles from the heart of downtown Charleston. Plenty of shops and restaurants were located just around the corner. Beds were very comfortable. We had a perfect stay here!

09/15/17 Thanks again, Neale. You went far beyond any expectations Patti and I had for the stay. The timeliness and clarity of your communications is exemplary and much appreciated. Given the impending hurricane, we were in a time crunch. Your professionalism did a lot to relieve the stress we were feeling.

Neale and Courtney have the most perfect space! It is bright, peaceful, and stocked with any linen (or cocktail) you could need! They have made sure everything is clean and welcoming upon arrival, and any question we could have had was already answered before arriving. The house is right inside the historic neighborhood of Byrnes Downes, which is only a 10 minute drive to downtown Charleston--the perfect place to escape after a long day of walking and touring. Avondale has its own personality to explore as well -- we felt like we had two vacations in one! We also drove 30 minutes to Sullivan's Island for an afternoon spent on the beach. Truly the perfect location. I can't say enough about this place! I feel like I struck gold with this AirBnB find, and if I ever stay in Charleston again this will be my first pick!

My family loves Charleston and though I don't live there full time anymore, we come so often that we have our own little place in Byrnes Downs. I studied historic preservation in grad school in Charleston and actually did a project in Byrnes Downs which is how we came to know about such a cute little quiet area. I now work in historic preservation and my wife works in real estate. We have a daughter and a lab who love to travel everywhere with us.
