Overall a very nice house. It is 101 years old and was extremely well decorated. Lots of breakable items, so you may need to be careful with little ones. Good overall location, although not the best neighborhood. Be prepared to park on the street. Only maintenance issue was that one of the window frames leaked when it rained. Biggest issue by far was cleanliness. We saw the three cleaners come and go in about 50 minutes. They were definitely in a big hurry and left lots of long, brown hairs throughout the house. We cleaned the floors ourselves. Window sills and other items not clean either. It was a very surface cleaning job with little effort by folks in a big hurry. One of the rooms is listed as a queen bed, but it's a size smaller. The other big issue is internal doors that don't close due to no door handles or latches. Definitely a challenge with six folks in a house and bedroom and bathroom doors that can't be closed and locked. The street outside can be a bit busy at times with vehicles and a nearby barking dog, so consider using a white noise app for sleep time. Nice kitchen area and everything worked as advertised. Bring plenty of large trash bags, as all three of our trash bins were crammed full before we arrived for a four-day visit. Good communication response time from the host.
Response from Michelle:
Bryce, The neighborhood is actually a very good neighborhood. The area has some of the oldest homes in Galveston. My children lived in the home full time while they attended college at A&M and I had problems with them living in the home and my husband and I being 4 hours away. My husband and I were never once uncomfortable living in that home or letting our children live in that home. We never once had any issues. All of the neighbors are great people and we have had some really fun times with them. The windows are original to the home which means that they 101 years old also. They are historical. Being that the windows are original to the home and single pane, yes, you could happen to hear comings and going from the outside. My husband and I have always owned historical old homes. We try to save anything that is original to the home. We always try to keep the old charm of the home. You did get the check in information in your email. It was in your spam folder and when you called me to say that you did not have the information, I promptly emailed again to your email address. We had 10 people that checked out the day you got in to the home. The city garbage had not arrived to pick up the garbage. I called the city and they came out and made a special pick up for the garbage. I have talked to the cleaning crew and they told me, and not that this is an excuse but since you arrived before your scheduled check in time of 4:00 pm, they tried to hurry so you could check in early. This is why when you had asked for a early check in I did not approve it since it was not made in enough time for me to re arrange the cleaning schedule. I am just blocks from the home and if you would have called me about the cleaning, I could of had them right back over to take care of any of your concerns. Thank you for staying in our home. Michelle
Michelle's place was super cute for adults and just a very short walk to the beach. The house looks way better in person than what's shared on Airbnb. The house was clean and very inviting. This place may not be great for families with toddlers as they can easily get into all the decorations around the house. In addition, washing and drying the towels before leaving was a bit of an inconvenience if you are leaving that morning and still have to shower.
Very close to the beach, we usually just walked! The house is also very close to many restaurants and bars if you don't mind walking a few blocks. Very comfortable for large families. It was nice that everyone had their own bed without having to sleep on air mattresses or pull out couches. Definitely would recommend booking this house for a Galveston vacation!
