Great stay at Irene's. She was readily available to help and answer any questions, including calling a taxi for me to take early the following morning. The apartment is very spacious and literally one minute walk from the laundry, 2 minutes from a grocery store, and less than 10 minutes to the Duomo and city centre. Good locks and safety features in place. Enough dishes and cutlery for 6 people to eat. Note for those arriving by train: Although it's only 20-25 min walk from the train station, the cobblestone and uneven streets may make it difficult to walk with luggage with wheels. Backpackers would be OK though. I took a cab and it was about 20 min too because of traffic. Totally worth it though! Thanks again Irene! Highly recommend it.

Irene was a great host. The apartment was well equipped with everything we needed during our trip, including plenty of blankets/pillows/towels etc. It was also not very far from major attractions and we managed to see everything on foot. The only problem we faced was that the apartment was broken into, we came home to find our belongings scattered everywhere, suitcases were open and some of our belongings were stolen (approximately £120 value). The host didn't have insurance and neither the host nor airbnb covered our losses and the airbnb customer service was actually very rude when we contacted them about it. The lady on the phone said that "when you're in a restaurant and your things get stolen the restaurant doesn't pay you". Renting a flat is not the same as going to a restaurant and we would assume that our belongings would be safe. It was very uncomfortable to have our privacy breached and we have of course lost money as a result of it as well. It was also a bit uncomfortable staying there afterwards knowing that criminals had been there and might come back. I wish the host has been a bit more communicative about the lack of security in the building (no security cameras in the building or on the street for example) and that this might be a dangerous area since the host seemed to know how the doors were breached (with a credit card). The street the flat is located in doesn't have a lot of street lights either. I would advise not to leave any valuables in the flat and take locks for your suitcases. Don't assume your belongings will be as safe as if you're in a hotel.

Response from Irene:
I still have doubts about what actually happened because you have told me that you left the door unlocked. I do not think you can consider me responsible for not telling you to lock the door as this is common sense and would be so in any city. Florence is not a dangerous city and I have a secure door which can be locked, however if it is left unlocked it is a common door. The security of my guests is very important to me: indeed I have a smoke detector, emergency light and first aid kit. With regards to the perfume, there is no way two bottles that you have used for 5 years can have a combined value of £120. I am sure there is no insurance plan that would pay you £120 for perfume you have had for 5 years. About "this might be a dangerous area since the host seemed to know how the doors were breached (with a credit card)": unlocking a door with a credit card is not a military secret and is something you can see after simply putting "how to open a door" in Youtube.

We had a great two days at Irene's apartment. The location is superb, it's clean, comfy and spacious. Irene is the perfect host making you feel very welcome. She provided us with lots of useful information and gave us great recommendations for the rest of our trip in Italy. The personal touches she added such as a bottle of wine and a box of goodies made you feel very special. I would highly recommend this place for a visit to Florence, it's within walking distance to all the main visitor attractions. We wished we could have stayed longer!
