Other things to note
Transport & Tourism
We can collect and drop you off at the airport or locations within Guatemala city. We charge Q165 (about $23 US) in total for a private airport journey. It will be Q200 (about $27 US) if the transport is needed in the early hours of the morning or Friday afternoon and early evening (due to very heavy traffic leading to longer journey time).
Please contact us in advance to discuss details and price.
Alongside renting rooms we also offer bespoke day trips to surrounding areas or further afield including the Pacific coast, Amatitlan lake, Pacaya volcano, La Reunion golf resort, the region of beautiful Tecpan (famous for its restaurants) and the often overlooked Mayan sites of Iximche and Reino Poqoman.
We can provide transport to local markets and towns outside of the tourist areas to get a real feel for Guatemala, such as Pastores (order some custom made leather boots), Santa Maria de Jesús (local market), the tranquil hilltop village of San Cristóbal el Alto, and San Juan del Obispo (take a Convent tour at the site of one of the oldest Catholic buildings in Central America or sample a cup of local artisanal hot chocolate).
Guatemala city has many wonderful places to visit including having the best museums in the country. There are wonderful artisanal markets, restaurants, bars, cafes, the zoo, and shopping centres.
Please feel free to write to us before your visit or discuss when you arrive if there is something you would particularly wish to do outside or in addition to the main tourist destinations offered by tourist agencies in Antigua.
A little bit about us
We are a Guatemalan-Irish couple with one son. My name is Helena and my partner is Lhess. I grew up in the South of Ireland where most of my family still live. For many years my family ran a bed and breakfast and hosted homestays for language students.
Lhess is Guatemalan and is a Dentist in Antigua. He grew up in a home where his father was a professional writer and his mother an Anthropologist. He studied Mayan culture for four years and has extensive knowledge of Guatemalan history and current affairs.
We have always enjoyed meeting other travellers and aim to provide our guests with a comfortable and relaxed stay in our home. We are more than happy to help our guests with queries about visiting Antigua and travelling in Guatemala.
Lhess is a very safe and competent driver and takes security of his passengers very seriously, particularly when travelling in Guatemala whether in the countryside or city.
Lhess has travelled extensively in Guatemala throughout his life and over the years he has provided private tours in the country. He loves this type of work and takes great pride in sharing parts of the culture and history with visitors.
This is a family home within a quiet condominium. We aim to maintain a relaxed and tranquil home environment and ask that our guests are respectful of this by not making loud noises that would disturb other people in the house or neighbours.
No extra guests permitted.
For the washing machine/dryer not to be on between 8pm and 8am.
Please keep the kitchen and other communal areas clean.
Please wash up once you have finished eating.
