1850s Farmhouse on 72 acres. Relax on the back porch and soak in the view of the wetlands and Adirondack peaks beyond. A pair of Northern harriers (hawks) nest on our land as do many other birds.

Two bedrooms upstairs with living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom downstairs. Bathroom has clawfoot tub/shower and living room has wood burning stove. House is 5 minutes from downtown Essex with ferry to Vermont, restaurants, shops, and park with boat slip and small beach.

The space

There are only two beds in the house but you are welcome to bring an air mattress. You can put an air mattress in either of the bedrooms upstairs or in the dining room downstairs.

Guest access

Feel free to explore the property, though all auxiliary buildings, especially barns are off limits. In addition please be aware if walking the property that there is a natural very small pond just past one of the barns. We have a Keep Out sign in front to warn you of its existence. The property goes straight back to the railroad and to the north and south there are hedgerows to distinguish the end of our property-72 acres.

Interaction with guests

I'll be accessible by email or phone. I also have someone local, who can assist you, if needed.

Other things to note

Lots of great hiking nearby. Look up Champlain Area Trails for a comprehensive trail map of the immediate area. Coon Mountain is great with kids and you get a view overlooking the lake at the top.

I had a wonderful, quiet weekend with my daughter at this cool, 1850s farmhouse. My host, Sara, was very responsive and available for any questions I had. The view from the back porch is spectacular. It was chilly for this visit, so I sat outside in the mornings wrapped in one of Sara's wool blankets enjoying coffee and the mist. At night there were a million stars. There's a cozy kitchen with seasoned cast iron pans and great wood stove--stocked with everything we needed to make a fire. Nearby Essex is really cute and we enjoyed taking the ferry back and forth across Lake Champlain to visit places in Vermont.
