Enjoy peace and breathtaking views across Devon countryside from a perfect stone cottage. The place to rest and recuperate. Take a short drive to beaches, nearby towns and villages or walk through the kind of quiet only remote countryside can offer. Sleep in darkness lit by the moon and stars. Wake refreshed to birdsong, watch sheep with their lambs and enjoy pub lunches or eat in your own private garden. Relax in front of the log burner. Dogs and children welcome but mind the peacocks.

The space

The cottages were originally stone farm outbuildings. The Cider House served the apple orchard which occupied what is now the paddock below the cottages. They are surrounded by fields sometimes with grazing sheep with their lambs. A bridleway runs through the farm with occasional walkers passing. Books, DVDs, a TV and toys are in the cottage.

Guest access

The whole cottage and back garden are for your use. There is a large shared front garden and parking space. You are free to wander in the nearby fields which form part of the farm. From every window there is a lovely view. In the evenings there is a log burner to curl up in front of.

Interaction with guests

Our accommodation is separate with an entrance a short walk away. We are usually around at weekends.

Other things to note

The nearest shop is a mile away so come prepared with the food you need for your first meal.
There is tea, washing up liquid, soap and toilet rolls already in the cottage.
We have two peacocks which are fun to watch and there is a barn owl and usually lots of sheep. The water is very soft so great for hair washing. The cottage is powered by electricity and there is a log burner in the sitting room.

Myself and 4 other friends had the best bank holiday weekend at the Cider Cottage. Secluded but still close enough driving to other towns, clean and cute cottage, well equipped kitchen and common space and lovely bedrooms. Effie and Belinda were lovely and easy to communicate with. We were super late arriving due to London traffic and getting lost but they stayed up on the phone just in case. The cottage is so very cute with lovely sunny garden and table outside where we had breakfast every morning. It's pinch dark outside so no lights and traffic noises making it perfect for a good night sleep. There's a wee fire place and we even had extra wood left outside our door th next day. Amazing place!

3 lovely days in the world of silence, very nice cottage in peace and well decorated , surrounded by the English nature : birds, peacocks, sheeps ... don't forget to bring some food and enter the geographic coordinates in your satnav for arrival. good shoes, good books and you are ready to enjoy it.

We had a lovely peaceful 3 night (EMAIL HIDDEN)munication from Effie was excellent and we managed to find the farm easily. It's definitely off the beaten track and you will need a car, but it's well worth the effort. The views of the countryside from every window are lovely and it is so peaceful. Our children loved exploring the fields and playing on the rope swings. They were also entranced by the peacocks and their chicks walking around the garden. The house itself is very cosy and has everything you need for a long stay. It was spotlessly clean and we loved the big fluffy towels and log burner We would highly recommend the Cider House for anyone wanting to get away from it all and get back to nature for a few days

The house and site are lovely, and in a central location, perfect for exploring Devon. It is a bit secluded, and a farm site, so be prepared for a rural experience with sheep, lovely peacocks, and the occasional mouse appearance. Unfortunately, we did find droppings under furniture, along with poison mouse traps. Hopefully, they will not be there when subsequent guests arrive. We are familiar with farm life, but they should have been cleaned up before our arrival. The house was perfectly sited for our wanderings. The rooms were comfortable except for the springs in the mattresses, so ask if the host has invested in some foam toppers before booking. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the people onsite were very helpful with answering questions and providing supplies as needed.

Effie's place is well located to visit the North Coast of Cornwall or Dartmoor National Park. It is secluded and for those who want to get away from city craziness, it delivers. We visited when the farm had many lambs and trees were in bloom, it was very beautiful. The cottage offers basic level of comfort in terms of amenities, heat insulation or entertainment. The weather was mostly nice when we visited but I would recommend travelers with children to plan for entertainment in case of rain (eg. no wifi, no books, no games nor toys). Supermarkets are very far so bring your food with you.
