We are a trendy cafe/bistro set in the heart of Shoreditch with a cute and cosy studio apartment above. You'll have your own private space but feel free to enjoy the roof trrrace and our home-made breakfast downstairs. We are Opposite Columbia Road - perfect for exploring trendy East London. Very close to major tube stations and easy to jump on a bus to anywhere you like or walk into the city.

The space

It is a spacious flat on the 2nd floor of our cafe/bistro. It has an adjoined Kitchenette that leads into the bathroom (which has a shower). It looks out onto Hackney Road and Columbia Road where the famous Columbia Flower Market takes place on a Sunday. There is a fridge, microwave and electrical hob/stove with 2 hot plates and a washing machine.

As it's on the 2nd floor you'll have your private quite space but please feel more than welcome to chat to us and try our hearty grub. We have a lovely roof terrace for our customers on the first floor - but please feel free to use at your leisure.

The bedroom window does not open however the bathroom window does which let's air flow in. Feel free to also go down and use the roof terrace. Please do not smoke outside the bathroom window in any circumstances - please use the terrace and make sure your cigarette(s) are put out properly in the ash trays provided.
We a spare double mattress if need be - but please give me advance warning should you require this.

We are particular about keeping the flat clean - please do take shoes off outside the door and keep it in a clean state and in the condition it was when you arrived.

Guest access

You access the room through the cafe - we have a roof terrace on the first floor - can access flat this way or can go up another set of stairs (two exits).

While the stairs to the terrace are quite normal, the other stair cases are quite steep and narrow. There is a bannister and we keep lights on when guests are staying. This is something to bear in mind if you struggle/unable to climb steep stairs.

Interaction with guests

Either me, my mum and/or my partner Andrei (also head chef) will be around - Andrei will bound to give you tasters. Feel free to join us downstairs in the cafe if we have an event on or if you want to try out our lunch or dinner menu.

Breakfast is on the house :) We are open for lunch and late for dinner (most days, usually not on Monday and Sunday)

Other things to note

Please note that Thur-Sat we are open later and sometimes have booked events such as birthday parties etc. Most of the time noise levels are moderate but when we have a larger booking the noise levels may be slightly louder, especially when using the roof terrace.

Rest assured we close by 11am and on occasions when friends have booked the cafe we may be there later but no one is allowed onto the terrace 11/midnight unless they need to access the toilet. As guests you are more than welcome to use the roof terrace but please do keep voice levels very low.

Hackney Road is quite busy and can sometime be noisy with traffic and people at night, mostly weekends. This may be something to bear in mind if you are a very light sleeper. However, most people who stay are unaffected.

Great little place! Everyone was so lovely and it was great to get to know Aliyah, Sandy and Andrei. The room is perfect for a solo traveler or couple and the breakfast they whip up was outstanding!

Aliyah, Andrei and Aliyah’s Mum (?Sandy) were lovely hosts. Relaxed, welcoming and generous with food and drinks. The terrace is lovely to sit on especially for breakfast and a real bonus in the middle of London. We didn’t eat in the café but the food looked amazing! Central location only 10 minutes from Old Street tube station with easy walking to central London and loads of attractions and lovely parks. Shoreditch has loads of restaurants, pubs and music which is brilliant and lively but means it’s noisy. Bring your ear plugs and you’ll be fine. Weather was scorching but fan in the room did the trick.

The place was well situated (a 2 minute walk) to a bus stop that you can take easily to the Old Street tube or all the way to Oxford Circus. Or a 15/20 minute walk from the café to Old Street Station underground. The place itself had so much character. From the wonderful smells in the kitchen (as they freshly make everything each morning) to the narrow steep staircase leading up to your room. Not to mention the roof terrace that you are welcome to use is an added and delightful bonus. The streets are lively each evening adding to the excitement of the area. If you are a light sleeper this may cause a problem. We are not, so we slept soundly. The bed was comfortable and they even included amenities such as soaps for hair and body and all the towels you would need. Tea and coffee was provided with fresh milk in your room. The host provides you with breakfast each morning and an occasional meal or two. But even if you have to pay the price is reasonable and the food is a tasteful treat. All things are made by scratch and the aromas fill the air. If your nice they may even share a secret or two. Sandy, Aliyah mom, checked us in and was wonderfully pleasant and even helped lug our luggage up the stairs. Without her I am not sure I would have made it. I did not get a chance to met Aliyah but her mother and her husband, Andre were very accommodating offering advice on the area and were fun to engage in conversation in the evenings. They took a great interest in our needs and made us feel comfortable even taking an interest in my daughter and her studies. The place was amazing and the location was perfect for us. The only downfall would be the climb to your room. The staircase is narrow and steep. You need to be careful descending and ascending. I would not suggest this place for someone older or with knee or health problems. We would definitely stay her again. We wish the best to Aliyah, Sandy and Andre in their future endeavors and thank them for their hospitality.

All there to host us were really lovely and welcoming. In particular, we really enjoyed the patio in the evening. It really made our mini holiday. We weren't expecting breakfast in the morning (plus free coffee when we arrived), but were each made a full English with tea and coffee, and agree it was the best full English we've had! We will most definitely recommend this place to all our friends and would love to make this a regular spot when we visit London, either for lodging or dining or both! Especially with the patio, this was such a cool experience because we felt like we were out on the town while also feeling completely at home in a cafe/restaurant hot spot. You don't often get that kind of experience in a London airbnb or probably anywhere! Highly recommend this family run airbnb

The location is great - close to so many wonderful and non-touristy things. We felt like locals. The cafe is absolutely exceptional. And Sandy, Aliyah's mom is a gem. She made us feel like family. The space is cozy and welcoming. Please note: the window in the bedroom does not open - if it is hot outside, it will be very hot in the room.
