Great check-in experience91% of recent guests gave this home’s check-in process a 5-star rating.

Bac na beàrn is a traditional old Highland home owned by our family for 70 years. It’s solidly stone built, slate roofed, with full central heating and double glazing where it matters, warm, comfortable, unfussy, relaxed, and with many original features and quirks.

With four bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining and living rooms, it's a great base for up to seven to experience the seas, mountains and wildlife of this unique and outstandingly beautiful part of Scotland, including the Isle of Skye.

Thanks Leanne - glad you both enjoyed your holiday so much. It's true, Glenelg is peaceful as well as beautiful and certainly very different from the frenetic pace of so many UK cities. You'll be very welcome when you can make it again.

Murdoch's house was charming and fantastic value. Located very close to the centre of Glenelg but still tucked away so incredibly peaceful with amazing views. It's was much more than we expected and we will certainly stay again.

Had a wonderful time staying at Murdochs place in Glenelg. The house is massive, extremely good value for the size and is located in Scottish heaven. The house is well equipped and had everything we needed and more. We found everything comfy from the living room to the bedrooms…

Thanks Lee - glad you both enjoyed your visit and I look forward to welcoming you again. I like your phrase "think old Aunt Hildas farmhouse" as that indeed sums up both the positives and the negatives about the house - it's not a Hilton, as you say, and nor does it pretend to be but it's great as a warm, comfortable and not too fussy base for the likes of a family holiday in this beautiful area.

Murdoch's place is in such a beautiful area with amazing views. It is a wonderfully old-style home that is in an ideal location for days spent walking, fishing, bird/deer/otter spotting etc. Only two minutes walk from the village pub (drinks, meals, music, quiz nights), it is als…

Lovely house in a great location. The house is very, very, spacious, warm and comfortable. Murdoch describes it very accurately, it is not luxury living but it is a fabulous house, one of the best we have rented. Has everything you need including books and games, TV, DVD player,…

We lived several years in an house from the 17th century and knowing that old houses do have their own "Charme". But sorry to say, this was much too much Charme. We lost roughly 400€ by not feeling comfortable to sleep a night in the rooms and for me it is clear to not book any l…

Response from Murdoch:
I'm really sorry that the house was not to your liking or comfort and I note your comments about your concerns. We both lost out financially in consequence of the early cancellation and it's a shame, therefore, that things didn't work out as we might have expected. I'm afraid, however, I don't understand the matter of your not wishing to sleep there when you'd arrived, given that the bed linen was freshly laundered and that the duvets and the pillows were all relatively new, mostly this year but some last. I try to make the description of the house as accurate as possible, stressing that it's an older family holiday home (as opposed to a purpose built chalet or similar unit) with all that that implies, both positive and negative, but perhaps I need to be even clearer about exactly what guests should expect as it helps no one if there's a mismatch between expectation and reality. Thank you for your comments about communication and related matters.

Basic house but has everything you need. A lot of space we stayed with 2 families (2+2 and 2+1) and had more than enough room. Everything is a little bit old but it suits the decor... location is stunning!

Although I've lived in England most of my life (Bristol, Liverpool, Yeovil, and now in west Dorset on the coast road close to Bridport) I'm from the north of Scotland. My father was from Glenelg, a son of the manse, and I've lived in or visited Glenelg for over 70 years and hence…
