A classic South Hobart 'Tyenna' an old Cascade family brewer cottage, authentic shabby chic - furnishing, accessories, mirrors, vintage posters & cutting edge 21C Australian art. If you're an early riser - wake up to the distant sound of kookaburras laughing and catch a glimpse! Keep your eyes open for wildlife - wallabies, possums, & echidnas. Rainforest is not far away, the Cascades Walking Track is one of the closest, bushwalk down the rivulet to the city centre it starts across the road.

The space

'Tyenna' cottage South Hobart, charming scenic views of mountain and Cascade gardens. This is an authentic Tasmanian home experience. A rustic Cascade Brewery workers cottage built in the 1950's. This is a traditional shabby chic and not the a renovated fashion to be authentic version. We don't have a microwave but the oven works fine.

Our home has two bedrooms, Lounge (has fold out double bed). Porta-Cot available. Kitchen, Hall, Bathroom with Bath, Toilet, Laundry and rear yard. House has a heat pump. In back yard there is a trampoline, outside dining area, culinary Garden [herbs and vege season pending].

Full kitchen (you can cook here) - dine at home with ingredients from our culinary garden! [herb garden with some vegetables too (season pending)].

The Kitchen Light is manually adjustable with a chain and hook for your needs of intimate or wider lighting up to you.

Back garden has trampoline and dining area.

Lounge has a: TV, DVD including Blue Ray, 5.1 stereo, Chrome Cast, many vinyls & record player for entertainment while you cook and/or relax and simply take in the tranquility.

House is on a 'quiet street' on a *hill* quite back from the Main Cascade Road.
Plenty of street parking available - Front - Off street back rear.

In walking distance world heritage sites, rain forest walks and gardens.

We have a heat pump in the lounge room. If you keep all the doors to the rooms closed - this does a good job to heat up the lounge, the kitchen and hallways. We have 2 bar heaters for the bedrooms/bathrooom to use as you wish and they do a great job.

Note: As we are Tasmanian born and bred were used to wearing a woolen jumper, a keeping a knitted blanket on hand so we often do not resort to using all these heaters at once, but do feel free to do so!

Pleasant garden to dine in outside when weather permits. A private home to view wonderful avid bird life that takes pleasure from our native Tasmanian garden and nature strip. No need to go to farmers market all the greens are there waiting for you. Scenic views of Kunanyi (Mt Wellington), bright and sunny side of South Hobart (SoHo).

Dining is usually in the kitchen - our cozy hang out, cook chill out take in the south from the Mountain down the valley to the CBD - on a special occasion can even watch the fireworks from a far and feel apart of the action in a tranquil spot with out the hustle of crowds.

Host's mother is a 5th generation Tasmanian and will meet guest, to hand over keys, show them amenities and the general lay of the land.

Local Surrounds:
Soho Village has a variety restaurants and shopping. Refreshing 2.7k walk into the CBD via the Hobart Rivulet track. Bus Route 5min to the CB (1 bus about every 30 mins). Check the Metro Tasmania Bus timetable for the roster. South Hobart - SoHo - to the locals, is a quiet and safe suburb with World Heritage-listed sites and buildings, including Australia's oldest brewery, great parks, extremely hip cafes (without pretension -Yes in Tasmania still possible!) and an array of shops from vintage, cutting edge design to supermarkets. One of Hobart's older suburbs it is at the foot of Kunanyi (Mount Wellington) the Cascades Rivulet flows through here toward the city.

Getting to the city is easy with a walk down the historic Rivulet Track (20min) or by bus in which the stop is at the end of the street - (5 min), a convenient Regular Bus stop. Or for those whom want the tourist experience also Red Double Decker bus tours pass by there too ! If the pamphlet is not hanging about in the guest book information can be found on the Internet.

Guest access

The entire house is yours to enjoy, [one cold small room is locked off at the back].

Interaction with guests

In most cases, Marcia the matriarch of the house will be first point of contact and even may come to greet you and give you some local knowledge. Or certainly be 'on call' [txt is best to accommodate those out of range island moments]she'll to give you some tips if you need.

We suggest text and email as the best method as Tasmania often can get out of range -if you don't get through first call don't fear we wont be too far away.

Other things to note

Please keep both gates closed at all times - otherwise the wallabies, possums, and other nocturnal wildlife will come and eat all in the garden!

The garbage can be placed in the Bins up the back of the house behind the gate - recycling [yellow lid] and trash [green lid], and for 'the composting types' there is a compost green bin in the garden feel free to add yours there if is not your thing - no worries.

Do respect our music and record collection and other artefacts we have kept for your pleasure.

Public Transport:
There is a Bus on Cascade Rd -see Metro Tasmania - Cascade Road for the timetable. If one has not been left in the guest book.
NB: Tasmania in general for public transport is not like Melbourne or Sydney nor renown (although you'll see the former tram tracks up Cascade Rd...)

We have a washing machine, and good old fashioned Australian a Hills Hoist to hang your clothes on to dry.

South Hobart is best known to locals for its stunning view of kunanyi / Mount Wellington, its old women's convict prison, churches, a recycling centre, the waterworks reserve, the rivulet and a brewery. South Hobart is one of Hobart's oldest and southern suburbs - experience sipping a crisp lager in the wilderness surrounding the world famous Cascade Brewery. South Hobart's natural landscape is even older than its convict past the surrounding scenery embodies the islands immortal spirit. Take it in from the house or even climb to the pinnacle of Kunyani (Mount Wellington) and watch the little town with the birds and yachts gliding across the harbour.

We loved our stay at Marcia & Nancy's house. The location is great with amazing views of Mt Wellington but also close to the city with good restaurants nearby (we can highly recommend the Oriental!). The house is a great size, with plenty of room for our family and had everything we needed. There is also full cooking facilities if required. Check in was really easy and Marcia was there to greet us and tell us how everything worked. She also communicated with us during our stay with any extra information. We would definitely stay here again

The location of the house is excellent. We had five star views of snow capped mountains from the sunny kitchen table and enjoyed being able to see so much from the high vantage point. A short drive to start nature walks, and the Cascade brewery was walking distance. Thanks for a wonderful stay in Hobart it was very special!

Response from Marcia Nancy:
There is also a nature walk literally at the bottom of the street - Cascade Gardens and the rivulet walk either or up the hill or wind down the valley.
