This is the perfect "Family Vacation spot". The place to be for outside activities or when you have kids and it is raining outside. No matter what the weather you will still have a great vacation. This unit has 3 bedrooms plus a rec room that is used as the 4th bedroom. We also have an almost identical Chateau Edelweiss West Wing that can be rented in conjunction for larger groups.

The space

Our house is perfect for families and entertaining. The kitchen opens into the family room (fireplace), living room and dining room and which is all open concept and the furniture can be moved (with care) around to meet your individual needs. Our hot tub is on the second storey balcony (re-enforced steel designed to hold a hot tub and lots of people) overlooking the Summit Edelweiss Ski Hill and surrounded by the beautiful Gatineau Hills. There is a BBQ on the balcony for ease of cooking and is also away from the bugs. We designed the balcony so it is sheltered from the elements and can be used year round but open enough to provide a fantastic view. There are 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor with king size beds. There is also a 4 piece bathroom. On the ground floor is a 3rd bedroom room with 2 queen size beds as well as a recreation room / 4th bedroom with a queen size bed and two double futons with a memory foam topper (people often put their children in the rec room). The rec-room also has its own TV for kids to be away from the adults. The 3rd bedroom is on the ground floor, just off the second 3 piece bathroom off of which is a full laundry room with a steam washer and drier on the.

Outside we have a swing set and some slides for young children to play on. Lots and lots of places for children to run and play and if you are adventurous you can take a hike down to the creek and catch frogs or go fishing for Rainbow and Speckled Trout (with the appropriate licensing of course). If you are really, really adventurous you can take a hike up the opposite mountain which is beside a waterfall and overlook the whole valley of Edelweiss or hike up the ski hills. It is absolutely beautiful up there. The fall colours are absolutely incredible here. We often pack a picnic and have it at the top of the mountain and eat overlooking the valley and its natural beauty. Across the highway at the bottom of our road is a small pond that guests have used to skate on and they have loved it and a great place to play in the mud or catch frogs. There is a Morrison’s quarry about 6 minutes away where you can swim and/or bring your dog. Apparently there is s plane at the bottom of the quarry if you like diving or snorkeling or bungee jumping for those of you who are braver. Lac Phillippe is part of Gatineau Park and about 10 minutes away. Edelweiss Golf Course is seconds from our house in addition Mont Cascade Golf, Water Park and Ski Resort is about 12 mins away. You can go horse-back riding too at Captiva Farms which is about 15 minutes away.

Guest access

Second floor Hot Tub, Satellite TV and wireless internet are all included in your stay. There is a Propane fireplace, BBQ plus washer and drier. There is also a fire pit outside for your use however; you need to bring some wood. There is enough room to park 3 cars in the driveway or 2 if they are big trucks.

Interaction with guests

Our house is equipped with keyless entry so we email or text you the door code the day before your arrival and you and your guests can come and go with great ease. We are sometimes there in the adjoining unit but if we are not there we are easily accessible by e-mail, text or phone.

Other things to note

We are dog friendly for those pet owners that want to bring their pets with them, however, there will be an extra $100.00 cleaning fee added to your reservation due to the significant extra cleaning required to ensure the cleanliness for our future guests. We DO NOT allow Pitbulls, Rotweilers or Pure Breed German Shepherds to ensure the safety of our guests. I understand that not all dogs in these breads are dangerous, but we are not willing to accept the risk associated with these types of dogs. Cats may be considered but you would need to bring your own litter and box and the same cleaning fee would apply. If you bring a dog or cat and fail to inform us we will deduct the cleaning fee plus an additional $50 from your damage deposit in addition to any damage the animal does.

We also offer a bed linen and towel service for an additional $100.00 per rental for up to 10. So for a party of 10 guests it would cost $100.00. This would include a bath towel and face cloth per person as well as all the beds made, pillow cases and comforters.

You are expected to clean up after your dog and ensure that your dog does not damage the house i.e. scratching the door when you leave or go outside. We have a small pet carrier for your use if needed. There is absolutely no smoking allowed in the house. There is a designated area outside with a can with sand in it. We expect you to leave the place in as close to the condition you received it in and to respect it like it was your own home. No cats allowed. Dogs only. If you bring a dog and fail to inform us you will lose your damage deposit. If you have more guests than the number that you have booked or haven't informed us of you will lose your deposit and be charged an additional $25.00 per person. Please no cooking with strong smelling spices as there is not enough time between bookings for the smell to dissipate. Please remember to bring your own linens and towels and face clothes if you have decided not to have us supply them. If it appears that sheets were not used on the beds you will lose your deposit. We have lots of blankets and comforters, and pillows that are always provided. Please do your foot washing in the downstairs bathroom and not in the sink. There is a basin under the sink in the downstairs bathroom. If it appears that you have not respected this and there is water all over the place you will lose your deposit.

Hot tub

If you are there for more than 3 days you need to add chlorine pucks to the hot tub. Also the water level needs to be above the jets. It is very easy to fill just attach the hose to the kitchen tap and put the hose out the patio door to the hot tub. The water gets low when there have been a lot of people in the hot tub and it over flows. If there is damage done to the hot tub because the water level is too low you will be charged. If you need help filling the hot tub please ask us.

Please respect the noise bylaw of 11 pm and ensure that you turn the base down on your music. This is a double house so you need to respect the fact that there are people on the other side of the wall. The walls are really well insulated for sound but loud banging and shouting can be heard through the walls.

We will give you 3 warnings about the noise. First is just a friendly reminder to turn the music down or decrease the noise. Second warning is a reminder that if you don't reduce the noise that you will lose $100.00 of your deposit. Third reminder you will be told to leave and you will lose your damage deposit as well as all the rent you have paid. So far we have never had to go past the first warning. We gave garbage cans in the garage. Please put all of your garbage in garbage bags and in the cans in the garage by using the side door to the garage. Do not leave garbage outside as the animals will rip it apart and if left on the deck the crows will do the same.

We were a group of 10 that greatly enjoyed our stay! Jodi's place was clean, had a great layout and was nestled nicely in nature. Jodi was always a quick email away with any questions. We were expecting to just have to place our own sheets under the comforters. The beds were made when we got there which was slightly frustrating as we had to undo the housekeepers hard work and refold all the sheets. Overall, we loved our stay and we would come back one day!

Very nice stay in the country with a relatively short and easy drive to downtown Ottawa.

The Good The Bad The Ugly The GOOD is Wakefield with its variety of restaurants was the best reason to stay at Chateau Edelweiss East. Our interior accommodations were clean with all the supplies you would expect from a $350 a night accommodation. The BAD was an exterior deck with ripped furniture and a strong level of disrepair. The barbecue could not be used because the grates were absolutely disgusting. The UGLY was not having any control over heat or air conditioning from our East Side. All the heat/air controls are in the West side and we needed to cover all air registers because the West Side patrons preferred air conditioning. We were told by Jodi that we probably couldn't get heat from the fireplace because the gas was temperamental. It never worked.

The house was perfect for our group. Jodi was always available if we had any questions. The kitchen was well equipped for eating in and the house was a quick drive to Wakefield for our dinner out. Thanks!
