I feel a bit strange writing this review to be honest as so many you read are really positive but our stay was plagued with problems. Even arriving, Gustavo had no idea we were meant to be arriving and had no record of our names, only a booking number. This made it really hard to communicate as we speak little Spanish and he spoke no English. The room was far from sealed, big gaps around the back door and the mesh over the bathroom vent was broken. This meant that mossies and other biting insects plagued the room making it a bit nightmarish with no mosquito net. I really thought it was quite irresponsible to not have one under these circumstances or even any way of guests attaching their own. We asked twice for the bathroom cover to be fixed and it never was. After waking up on the second morning with what looked suspiciously like bed bug bites we asked for the sheets to be changed and they never were. The electricity cut out intermittently every night which made charging our devices a real challenge. The distance between the room ( and it really is just a room, not an apartment) and the town/beach isn't awful but you Will need to be prepared to drive or cycle quite a way. I wouldn't stay again and there are much better options available in Tulum.

Response from Otoch:
Hi Hayley, Im sorry I think this review is for another place as we do not have anyone names Gustavo, the person for the check ins is female, Raquel knew of your arrival and speaks great English... and we don't even have a back door. Can you please clarify with Airbnb

This place is beautiful! From the landscaping to the simply yet elegantly designed studio, it was perfect! There was always a housekeeper around and everything was kept super clean. Communication with everyone was easy. Would stay again and again!

It is a nice place to discover Tulum, when you have a car.

Great place, strong ac, reliable wifi. A short walk outside of the main strip in town, which I was fine with since it meant things were quiet. Comfy bed, two huge towels, I think there was hot water (I'm always so warm in the tropics that I never want hot water!). Dog friendly which was awesome. Communicative host who was cool when I managed to get ink on the sheets :( (I still paid for the sheets, he just didn't get mad!) He was also ready to come let me in when I thought I'd misplaced my keys at 11 p.m., but then I found them...overall a great stay!

Casa Otoch was a true gem on my first Tulum trip. The owners went out of their way to ensure I had a good check-in and stay. It was rustic, peaceful, and secluded... with amenities such as wifi, good water pressure, air conditioning, large comfortable bed, and a beautiful courtyard garden/jungle. I highly recommend this awesome airbnb hotel. And very, very clean.

The room and location was so much better than we even hoped for - and we had high hopes! Alex was an amazing host and couldn't have been more accommodating. The rooms are beautiful and well air conditioned. The entire place is a little private home away from home. 10/10 in every way.

We stayed at Otoch for 2 days in April 2017. The place was brand new and close to the main highway in Tulum´s downtown, which was great since we were traveling by car. Communication with the manager was good and he helped us with everything we needed during our stay. This is a good place to stay if you just want to spend the night and have fast access to downtown Tulum. TIP: Because it is surrounded by jungle, you may want to bring repellent if you dont like mosquitos, but mosquitos are everywhere in Tulum anyways!... have fun and enjoy Tulum!
