This cozy 2 bedroom apartment was formerly a chauffeur's apartment on 3.89 acres of land which is now part of our urban farmette at Wetherill Cottage (The Cottage can be rented separately and includes 4 other bedrooms). The Cottage and Apartment are completely separate living spaces, each with their own private entrances. There is a comfy living room complete with a TV with Netflix and a view of the garden and backyard, a small country kitchen, a newly remodeled bathroom, and two bedrooms.
The space includes a sitting room on the first floor, complete with a wood stove and small bathroom. Opening the front door from the sitting room you have your own private patio with small garden space. Moving upstairs via stairs one floor, you come in to the hallway of the apartment, off of which is the full bathroom, newly renovated and updated. On the south side of the apartment sits the kitchen, complete with fridge, oven/stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and kitchen (stocked with plates, cups, wine glasses, knives, pots, pan, etc.). The kitchen opens to the eating area and living room space. This cozy space is bright from the south facing windows, and overlooks the large lawn and gardens, you are barely able to see any other houses. In this room you will find the TV, books, games and comfortable chairs and a couch. Across the hall there are two bedrooms, each with it's own dresser, and closet. One has two single beds, the other a queen bed.
This space is an entire apartment. It does share a roof with another living space, but they are completely separate. Renters will not have access to the full yard, garden and outdoor patios that are not directly in front of the apartment area. But there are two lovely outdoor spaces for apartment renters only: one a patio and garden right outside the front door, and a side lawn area that is free to use as well.
There is a shared driveway, and one parking spot provided for the apartment occupants.
The greenhouse and the garden are for viewing purposes only and they are not for guests.
Interaction with guests
Most of the time we will be in the house right next door, and are available when needed. But that residence (The Weatherill Cottage) is also sometimes rented, so we will not always be available to greet you.
Other things to note
To access the apartment please take the mulched trail to the right of the garage and this will take you to the apartment entrance. At night we do have a few lights but we also leave a few flashlights available just in case you want more light on your walk if you arrive after dark coming and going from the apartment.
The unit is equipped with air conditioning units, that can be controlled by the renter themselves, but the heating system is controlled off site. We provide space heaters in addition to radiator heat, but you can notify us if the heat needs to be changed. So far all our guests have found this arrangement very comfortable.
- House Rules: Must be at least 25 years of age to rent from this owner 1. CHECK IN TIME IS after 4pm ET-Please be mindful that we live in a quiet residential neighborhood. CHECK OUT is at 11am. These times can be slightly flexible when possible if requested in advance. 2. NO smoking inside the house please. 3. Renter is responsible for bringing their own telephone for emergencies as there is no landline phone provided in the unit. 4. We are an environmentally friendly house and ask that water use be carefully monitored and that you turn off all lights and the air conditioners when you leave the house. 4. A successful stay is defined by meeting the following conditions: A. No damage is done to unit or its contents, beyond normal wear and tear. B. No charges are incurred due to contraband, pets or collection of rents or services rendered during your stay. C. All debris, rubbish, and discards are placed in provided garbage bags and then in the trashcans on the front porch. D. Doors and windows are locked upon departure. E. All charges accrued during your stay are paid prior to departure F. No linens or towels are lost or damaged. G. No early check in or check-out unless approved by owner in advance. 5. Renter is agreeable that this rental unit has only the one parking space in the back, but that street parking is plentiful. Renter should park their locked vehicles on public streets (be mindful to not have valuables in the car) and alleys and should obey parking signs. Property owner will not be responsible for parking tickets, towing or car storage charges. 6. MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY: The maximum number of guests permitted in this unit is eight (8) unless approved by the owner. 7. INCLUSIVE FEES - rate includes a one-time linen and towel setup. Amenity fees are included in the rental rate. 8. NO DAILY MAID SEVICE - While linens and bath towels are included in the unit, daily maid service is not included in the rental rate. We suggest you bring beach/pool towels. We do not permit towels and linens to be taken from the unit. 9. Any reservation obtained under false pretense will be subject to forfeiture of advance payment, deposit and/or rental money, and the party will not be permitted to check-in or subject to eviction if this occurs during their stay. 10. WRITTEN EXCEPTIONS - Any exceptions to the above mentioned policies must be approved in writing in advance. 11. STORM POLICY- No refunds will be given unless The National Weather Service or Government Agency orders mandatory evacuations. 12. No loud music; additional guests on the premises will be limited to 4 provided they are not overnight guests. Violation of guest restrictions, loud voice(s) or music level will be cause for immediate corrective action including but not limited to eviction. 13. No one under the age of 21 will be permitted to consume alcoholic beverages on the premises; this includes the patio areas and walkways. 14. In the event of a cancellation, it is necessary to notify owner as soon as possible. Attempts will be made to re-rent your accommodation. If we are successful, your deposit will be refunded. This agreement shall not be assigned or the premises sublet without written consent of the Landlord. 15. There will be a $20 dollar charge for a lost key. I (we) hereby agree to vacate rented premises no later than the hour and date shown above and to return the keys immediately to the lockbox situated outside the front door and to return the extra key to the kitchen counter. 1. Clean refrigerator. Leave no food or drink in the refrigerator. 2. Empty all garbage bags and recyclables into outside trash cans making sure to use trash bags (provided). 3. Clean all dishes used, stove, range & grill, counter tops, sinks and appliances. Wipe all surfaces so that they are free of grease and food. Put all dishes back where they are found. 4. Do not re-arrange furniture. Owner will retain $20 from deposit for rearranged furniture. I (we) agree to leave the property in the same condition in which it was found. Reasonable wear and tear excepted. I (we) agree to replace or pay for losses, breakage or damage should such occur. LANDLORD/OWNER SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE OR LOSS OF TENANTS' PERSONAL PROPERTY. Dates of rentals are guaranteed (exception: Act of God, e.g. fire, mandatory evacuation due to hurricane) when deposit has been received. NOTE: TV, ELECTRONICS, APPLIANCES ARE NOT GUARANTEED. REPAIRS WILL BE MADE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. NO REFUND DUE
My partner Shelley and I are avid independent travelers and we are excited to be listing our house for the first time in our amazing neighborhood. We have backpacked all over Central America, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, and have spent significant time in East Africa and Europe. One of our favorite trips was biking the length of Prince Edward Island. Now with our two young sons we are doing more family friendly trips to beaches, cities, cabins, visiting family and friends, and working farms. We love outdoor concerts, reading, movies, gardening and hiking together. Life is so short and we want to explore and learn as much as we can.
