This cozy 2 bedroom apartment was formerly a chauffeur's apartment on 3.89 acres of land which is now part of our urban farmette at Wetherill Cottage (The Cottage can be rented separately and includes 4 other bedrooms). The Cottage and Apartment are completely separate living spaces, each with their own private entrances. There is a comfy living room complete with a TV with Netflix and a view of the garden and backyard, a small country kitchen, a newly remodeled bathroom, and two bedrooms.

The space

The space includes a sitting room on the first floor, complete with a wood stove and small bathroom. Opening the front door from the sitting room you have your own private patio with small garden space. Moving upstairs via stairs one floor, you come in to the hallway of the apartment, off of which is the full bathroom, newly renovated and updated. On the south side of the apartment sits the kitchen, complete with fridge, oven/stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and kitchen (stocked with plates, cups, wine glasses, knives, pots, pan, etc.). The kitchen opens to the eating area and living room space. This cozy space is bright from the south facing windows, and overlooks the large lawn and gardens, you are barely able to see any other houses. In this room you will find the TV, books, games and comfortable chairs and a couch. Across the hall there are two bedrooms, each with it's own dresser, and closet. One has two single beds, the other a queen bed.

Guest access

This space is an entire apartment. It does share a roof with another living space, but they are completely separate. Renters will not have access to the full yard, garden and outdoor patios that are not directly in front of the apartment area. But there are two lovely outdoor spaces for apartment renters only: one a patio and garden right outside the front door, and a side lawn area that is free to use as well.
There is a shared driveway, and one parking spot provided for the apartment occupants.
The greenhouse and the garden are for viewing purposes only and they are not for guests.

Interaction with guests

Most of the time we will be in the house right next door, and are available when needed. But that residence (The Weatherill Cottage) is also sometimes rented, so we will not always be available to greet you.

Other things to note

To access the apartment please take the mulched trail to the right of the garage and this will take you to the apartment entrance. At night we do have a few lights but we also leave a few flashlights available just in case you want more light on your walk if you arrive after dark coming and going from the apartment.
The unit is equipped with air conditioning units, that can be controlled by the renter themselves, but the heating system is controlled off site. We provide space heaters in addition to radiator heat, but you can notify us if the heat needs to be changed. So far all our guests have found this arrangement very comfortable.

Felt like we were staying at a friend's place. Brie thought of everything. Our first airbnb experience, but definitely not our last.

We loved our stay in Brie's chauffeur's apartment. It is well situated and private; we were guided in by a fox and welcomed by deer! All quite magical. It was very easy to communicate with Brie. Couldn't have asked for more. I do look forward to returning sometime soon.

Brie and Shelley have created a beautiful little oasis for their guests. It is a very comfortable, restful apartment with everything one could want. Easy access to all the wonderful things Philly and the surrounding area have to offer. We had a great time in the city and it was so fabulous to come home to the sweet farmette! Absolutely a one of a kind stay!

Brie's home was such a cozy, homey nook just outside of Philly. We felt like we were in an artists peaceful getaway. It was more than enough space for my wife, 2 kids and I. The queen bed in the master's bedroom was very comfortable [huge must]. There were toys and a pack-n-play for the baby and a ton of kids books as well as other books for the grown ups that I wish I had more time to peruse. I loved the backyard nook as well, it was a great spot to have my morning coffee. Speaking of coffee, there was fresh ground coffee ready to be made with a clean coffee maker! First time I've ever had a host that had coffee ready to go for us....even had Stevia [huge plus] and cream. Late night I was a bit hungry and there were veggie chips available too! Very thoughtful of our guests. To get anywhere we needed to be in Philly was about 20 minutes. We were in town for family for the weekend but I wish we got to stay longer. The wife and I are already planning on making a trip and hopefully booking Brie's place next summer so we can have a comfy home to take in more of Philly. Thank you Brie!

Absolutely amazing!!! Doesn't quite cover it. The location, the property, the hosts exceeded all of our expectations. To start, the location is in the Glenside neighborhood of Philly. But you wouldn't know it as you wind down the private driveway and what opens before you is a 100 year old home that once housed the estate's caretaker, chauffeur & the automobiles. There is a coziness & charm that envelops you as soon as you enter the lower level of the chauffeur’s quarters with it's attractive stone alcove offers two comfortable wingback chairs perfect for reading or just relaxing and taking in the view. There is also a 1/2 bath on this level which is nice if someone is lingering in the well-appointed full bath upstairs (but more on that later.) As you climb the stairs and open the door to the 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment your jaws might just drop as you take in all historic ambiance of the dwelling. Starting with the bathroom to the left which maintains the 100 year old charm but with modern fixtures from the sink to the deep cast iron tub you'll want to linger and enjoy a nice long hot shower or deep soak in the tub! Next, down the hall you'll find one bedroom with a full size bed and a second bedroom with two twin sized beds. All comfortable, cozy and air-conditioned which is a plus if you come during the usually hot muggy days of summer. But you may just enjoy opening the windows and allowing the evening breeze flow through which also helps make for a good night sleep! To the right, you'll first find a small cozy kitchen with everything you'll need to make yourself feel right at home including a coffee maker (including some coffee), toaster, fridge and farmhouse drainboard sink (which I absolutely loved), plenty of dishes for the family and a full set of pots and pans to cook your own version of Ratatouille! Next the living area with its hardwood floors, sofa, two club chairs with one matching ottoman, dining table with four chairs and a coffee table. It also includes a buffet style table full of games that will keep you or the young'uns entertained. (Our granddaughter spent hours playing with the building set.) The entertainment center which looks like it was built when the house was constructed contains enough adult and children's books to keep you busy as you relax and take in the view from the four windows overlooking part of the property. Or you might just want to unwind and watch the telly which as of this review only has Netflix. This property also has Wi-Fi which a nice add. Otherwise, you might just not remember what's going on outside in the modern world! Outside, the grounds are well manicured, with about half tended in level lawns & the remainder in a naturalized habitat of briers & woods. It's a nature lover's dream with an abundance of wildlife, (we...

My partner Shelley and I are avid independent travelers and we are excited to be listing our house for the first time in our amazing neighborhood. We have backpacked all over Central America, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, and have spent significant time in East Africa and Europe. One of our favorite trips was biking the length of Prince Edward Island. Now with our two young sons we are doing more family friendly trips to beaches, cities, cabins, visiting family and friends, and working farms. We love outdoor concerts, reading, movies, gardening and hiking together. Life is so short and we want to explore and learn as much as we can.

For other hosts we are interested in possible house swaps so don't hesitate to write us.
